Five things to know about the Pelicans on Aug. 8

by Jim Eichenhofer

1)      The next key event for NBA teams will be the release of the 2014-15 regular season schedule, which likely will take place in the near future. There has been no confirmed release date.

2)      The USA Basketball group of finalists is down to 15 following Kevin Durant’s withdrawal from consideration yesterday. Twelve players will be on the USA roster that competes in Spain at the FIBA World Cup.

3)      Anthony Davis and the Americans will meet in Davis’ hometown of Chicago on Thursday, training for two days before facing Brazil in an Aug. 16 exhibition game.

4)      Looking further down the road in this offseason, NBA teams who do not have overseas preseason games generally hold Media Day on either the last Monday of September, or the first Monday of October, depending on how the calendar falls.

5)      The Pelicans’ entire preseason schedule has not yet been released, but they’re opening their exhibition slate with a previously-announced Oct. 4 game at Louisville, against the Miami Heat.
