1)      We’ve finally reached a semi-quiet portion of the NBA summer, after the May draft lottery, June draft, July summer league and USA Basketball training camp. The national team is in the midst of a mini-break, before gathering again next week.

2)      Anthony Davis and USA Basketball’s 16 finalists will meet in Davis’ hometown of Chicago on Aug. 14, training for two days before facing Brazil in an Aug. 16 exhibition game.

3)      The men’s national team will also play exhibition games on Aug. 20 (vs. Dominican Republic), Aug. 22 (Puerto Rico) and Aug. 26 (Slovenia). America’s first FIBA World Cup game is Aug. 30 in Spain.

4)      Pelicans assistant coach Bryan Gates is competing in an Aug. 23 triathlon in the memory of Atlanta firefighter Frank Guinn, who was tragically killed in New Orleans in April. To donate to Gates’ efforts, click here.

5)      Check out a photo gallery of Omer Asik’s preparations for the FIBA World Cup. He will be playing for Turkey.
