The New Orleans Hornets announced today they have entered into an agreement with ESPN Deportes 1280 AM to broadcast all 82 regular-season games in Spanish during the 2012-13 season.
“We are so excited to be working with the Hornets,” said Clear Channel President/Market Manager Dick Lewis. “Our goal in launching ESPN Deportes on WODT AM 1280 was to serve the vital and growing Spanish speaking community in New Orleans. It was our hope from the outset to be able to originate the entire season of Hornets Basketball Play-by-Play in Español on WODT. Now it’s a reality. This is fantastic!”
Emilio Peralta will have the play-by-play and David Lopez will provide color commentary for ESPN Deportes beginning with the Hornets season opener on Oct. 31 against the San Antonio Spurs. The duo had spent the last two seasons together broadcasting Hornets home games for the previous Spanish Language outlet.
Peralta, a University of North Carolina graduate, has covered the NBA for newspapers in Chile, Venezuela and ESPN Deportes Radio, as well as serving as the Spanish radio play-by-play voice of the Hornets for the past four seasons. Peralta is also a columist for TodoSports (a bi-weekly-Latino free newspaper in New Orleans) and started his radio career in ESPN Deportes Radio in 2006 in Bristol, Conn. A native of Chile, Peralta also served as the voice of the Saints from 2007-10, including Super Bowl XIIV.
Lopez, a graduate of National Autonomous University of Honduras, is in his third season as the Spanish color analyst for the Hornets. In addition to his radio duties, Lopez writes a column for La Republica (a monthly Latino free newspaper in New Orleans). Lopez played professional basketball in Honduras.
