August 24, 2011

The New Orleans Hornets announced today that Chevron Gulf of Mexico Business Unit, has demonstrated their commitment both to the organization and to the community as they have reached the highest partnership status, at the Crescent City Champion level, with a partnership centered on education and rebuilding in the community. Chevron joins existing Crescent City Champions Cox Communications, 7-Up and Ochsner Health System, and Entergy, each of whom have fully integrated partnerships which are activated through every aspect of the Hornets sponsorship asset mix.

As we continue to move towards our goal of keeping the Hornets in New Orleans, establishing strong corporate support is imperative, said Hornets President Hugh Weber. Having partners like Chevron will help us lay the groundwork to reaching that goal.

The announcement comes in the midst of the Hornets Im In campaign, as the team pushes to reach a season ticket base of 10,000 and to increase the commitment and terms of sponsorship agreements for next season and into the future.

Tom Ward, Senior VP of Corporate Partnerships of the Hornets, said, We are thrilled to add Chevron to our strong base of Crescent City Champions. Chevron has been a great partner of the Hornets, and we appreciate that they have stepped up to support us and to demonstrate that they are, indeed, in. Their recent commitment to the Crescent City Champion level is a substantial step in keeping the Hornets in the Crescent City and their investment in the MVP and Mathletes community programs will play an instrumental role in fueling the education of our children who are the future of this city.

Chevron has been a longstanding partner of the Hornets. The foundation of the partnership has been the Most Valuable Pupil program, in which the Hornets conduct the largest classroom in the state of Louisiana on Martin Luther King Day each season. This past season, Chevron joined several other Hornets partners to present Believe in Blue, a campaign to raise awareness and funds for communities affected by the Macondo incident. Over $200,000 were raised through these collective efforts.

Chevron has partnered with the New Orleans Hornets for the last two seasons where we have proudly built numerous corporate and community programs said Vice President of Chevrons Gulf of Mexico Business Unit, Warner Williams. Chevron teaming up with the Hornets on programs such as the Most Valuable Pupil (MVP) and Mathletes are winning examples of how working together, we are investing in the educational foundation which is an important factor in the economic growth and well-being of the Gulf Coast communities in which we live and work.

We feel so strongly about the value of our partnership with the Hornets that we have seen fit to grow it each season. Now, we are proud to join the elite group of Hornets partners and to look forward to the future of the business relationship.
