The Hornets are listed in fifth place (out of the 30 NBA teams) in every poll we surveyed this week, trailing Boston, Cleveland, the Lakers and Orlando.

Our weekly look at where the Hornets rank in national power polls usually takes place on Tuesdays, but with New Orleans hosting the Lakers tomorrow night, here is this week’s list. You’re invited to provide your own opinions on the power rankings in the comments section of this blog:

NBA.com (5th, up 3 spots): “Quite a bit has been written about the Hornets' early struggles, but here they are, second in the West and with the fifth best record in the NBA. They've won 11 of their last 13 and have a big week ahead with the Lakers, Magic and Rockets on the slate.”

ESPN.com (5th, up 2 spots): “They are getting closer to the Hornets we expected to see. Since the wake-up call of a loss at Sacramento before Thanksgiving, CP3 and Co. are 11-2 . . . and the only losses were at Portland and at Boston.”

SI.com (5th, same as previous week): “Chris Paul continues to pile up the honors. Last week, Paul broke the NBA record when he recorded a steal for the 106th consecutive game. "It is just amazing what he has been able to accomplish in such a short period of time," Hornets coach Byron Scott said. New Orleans will need Paul at his best this week when it faces the Lakers (Tuesday), Magic (Thursday) and Rockets (Friday)."

Dime Magazine (5th, up 1 spot): “Lost in all the Celtics/Lakers Christmas Day pre-hype is a huge matchup between the Hornets and Lakers on Tuesday. Chris Paul is back in the MVP discussion, leading N.O. to a 7-1 record this month.”
