What does eighth-year Hornets forward Ryan Bowen like to do when he’s not playing basketball? Hornets.com sat down with the University of Iowa product to find out more about his interests away from the game of hoops.

Favorite place to visit in New Orleans: Café du Monde. “I’m a big fan of beignets. My dad used to come down here for business trips and bring back a box, and my mom would have to make them. Not that my mom didn’t make them very well, [grins] but it’s been good to get ones that are actually made at Café du Monde.”

Favorite New Orleans food: “I’ve enjoyed everything and I’ve been trying to taste something different each night and that’s been fun. It’s definitely different, but something I can get to like.”

His best effort at spelling Tchoupitoulas Street correctly: “C-H-O-P-A-T-O-U-L-I-S.”

At the movies: “I’ve got three kids now, so I’m going to a lot of kids’ movies. Right now we’re into High School Musical, that’s the biggest thing. I’ve seen High School Musical 1 and 2 a few times. It’s fun to go to the movies with the kids.”

Favorite actor: Will Ferrell. “He’s very funny. I’ve also always liked Jim Carrey and Tom Hanks.”

TV shows he watches: “As a family, we watch American Idol when it comes on. Personally, I’m a big fan of Lost. I look forward to that starting up again. But other than that it’s kids’ TV, shows like Hannah Montana and the Suite Life of Zach & Cody.”

Favorite superhero: Superman.

Superpower he’d like to have: The ability to fly. “If I could incorporate that into basketball and have some kind of super-jumping power that’d be pretty good.”

What he’d be doing if he weren’t an NBA player: “I’d be working with kids in some form, whether it’s teaching or coaching. My parents were both teachers. The influence coaches have had in my life growing up (was important), even going back to first and second grade. Working with the little ones coming up would be a lot of fun.”
