First-Place Hornets At Minnesota Tonight

New Orleans needed 53 minutes to overtake Memphis in Tennessee last night and improve to a franchise-record 8-2. The Hornets flew to Minneapolis after the game, for the second of back-to-back road tilts. Tip-off against the Timberwolves (1-6) is at 7 p.m. Hornets-Wolves is being televised by Cox Sports, beginning with the “Hornets Tonight” pregame show at 6:30.

It will be interesting to see how the Hornets perform after many of their key players were forced to log extended minutes vs. the Grizzlies. David West, Chris Paul and Tyson Chandler each were on the floor for more than 40 minutes last night. According to the Times-Picayune, West and Paul received treatment after the game. Paul sustained a right ankle sprain, but apparently it was a relatively minor injury.

New Orleans has fared extremely well on the road so far, going 5-1, including three straight victories. The initial two road triumphs came against opponents that currently sport winning records, Denver (6-3) and the Los Angeles Lakers (5-3), while the past three (New Jersey, Philadelphia, Memphis) are below .500 right now.

Minnesota’s lone win of 2007-08 came Wednesday at home vs. Sacramento, another team that is off to a poor start. Visit the blog on Sunday for analysis as the Hornets continue trying to add to what’s so far been the best November in the two-decade history of the team. With San Antonio (8-2) not playing tonight, New Orleans can move into sole possession of first place in the Southwest Division.
