Two years ago at the World Basketball Championships, Greece used a barrage of open layups and three-pointers to score 101 points and hand USA Basketball one of its most stunning defeats in the history of the American team.

USA Basketball made sure it wouldnÂ’t happen again in the Olympics, playing markedly improved defense en route to a 92-69 victory. The U.S. held Greece to 41 percent shooting, including 4-for-18 from three-point range.

Hornets point guard Chris Paul played the second-most minutes of any USA player, behind only LeBron James. Over his 26 minutes of action, the 6-footer tallied four points, two boards, three assists and two steals.

The U.S. improved to 3-0 in Group B pool play. Its next game is Saturday (9:15 a.m. Central) against Spain, which is also 3-0 so far.
