USA opens Olympics with 101-70 victory

hris Paul contributed all over the stat sheet while leading USA Basketball’s point guard in minutes Sunday, helping spark a 101-70 triumph vs. China. It was the American team’s Olympic opener, one of three games in Group B competition.

The 6-foot Paul came off the bench but logged 20 minutes, one more minute than Deron Williams (Utah Jazz). Jason Kidd (Dallas Mavericks) started the game and played a total of 13 minutes. Paul only attempted two shots, going 1-for-2 from three-point range, while handing out a team-best six assists. He also had three rebounds and two steals.

Yao Ming (Houston Rockets) tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds for China. Yi Jianlian (New Jersey Nets) added nine points.

USA Basketball's next game will be Tuesday (7 a.m. Central) vs. Angola.
