Next month’s NBA Summer League in Las Vegas should provide plenty of reasons for New Orleans Hornets fans to tune in on television or make the trip to Nevada to watch in person. Not only are 2009-10 NBA All-Rookie team selections Darren Collison and Marcus Thornton expected to participate, but the Hornets’ 2010 first-round pick will make his unofficial professional debut July 9. It will also be an optimum opportunity for first-year head coach Monty Williams to get much better acquainted with a few of New Orleans’ key young players.
The Hornets’ summer league roster will be finalized and announced in late June or early July following the 2010 draft, but their five-game Las Vegas schedule was unveiled today. New Orleans will begin its game action on Friday, July 9, vs. Golden State. That game will tip off at 7 p.m. local Las Vegas time (9 p.m. Central time). In past years, games have been broadcast on NBA.com and NBA TV. The league said today that a complete broadcast schedule for the 2010 NBA Summer League will be released at a later date.

Other notes related to summer league:
• Barring any trades on draft night, 10 of the 14 NBA lottery picks will be playing in Las Vegas, including the Hornets’ pick. Washington (No. 1 overall choice), Minnesota (No. 4), Sacramento (No. 5), Golden State (No. 6), Detroit (No. 7) and the Clippers (No. 8) will all be there, meaning six of the top eight draft picks would be in action.
• Games for NBA Summer League are played at two adjacent arenas in Las Vegas – Cox Pavilion and the Thomas & Mack Center. Cox Pavilion is essentially the “main” venue among the two. There will be 42 games played at Cox Pavilion and 16 at Thomas & Mack. Each of the first four Hornets games will be contested at Cox Pavilion, with the fifth and final matchup slated for the Thomas & Mack Center.
