Byron Scott post-practice Q&A

By: Jim Eichenhofer,

Highlights from Byron Scott’s chat with local media members after Friday’s practice in the Alario Center:
Q: How did the team look in the final practice before Game 1?
Scott: This is probably the best practice we’ve had in about a month. The guys were really focused and the intensity level in the scrimmage was very good. I thought our (backup) team did a really good of emulating some of the things Dallas does. Hopefully that’s a good sign.

Q: A lot of people are predicting a Dallas victory in this series, and the Hornets are starting to take on that underdog role again, after the teams in the West had been chasing you all season. Is that a good thing for your team?
Scott: I think it’s a good thing, the fact that people have been doubting us all season long. Out of seven people that I’ve seen talking about the series, I think six of them had us losing this series. We’re back to the underdog role, which is kind of cool, because we’ve thrived in that role all season long.

Q: How much can you milk an underdog role?
Scott: [grins] Heck, I can milk it all the way to an NBA title! [laughs] We’ll see.

Q: What’s the toughest thing to adjust to from the regular season to the playoffs?
Scott: I don’t know what the hardest thing is, but the biggest difference is you’re playing for a whole lot more now. You have a lot more at stake, which means the level of basketball is going to be a lot higher. To me, it’s going to be a lot more fun. You’re playing against the best competition in basketball. If you’re a real competitor, you’re looking forward to that.
