The University of Texas-El Paso announced this afternoon that it has hired Hornets assistant Tim Floyd as its new head men's basketball coach. Floyd is returning to the place where he landed his first full-time coaching position over 30 years ago. He was an assistant coach under the legendary Don Haskins from 1978 through 1986.

“We are excited for Tim and wish him nothing but success in his new endeavor,” Hornets General Manager and Head Coach Jeff Bower said. “He has been a great asset as the lead assistant coach and for all of us at the Hornets. He excels at teaching the game and is a perfect fit for a storied program like UTEP.”

“Tim is a fine coach and we know that he will succeed at UTEP,” President Hugh Weber said. “He is a proven winner, a great person and we thank him for his time at the Hornets.”
