Based on the numerous predictions made by media members everywhere this week, it appeared as though David West only had an outside shot to be named to the Western Conference All-Star team. By my estimate, probably about 20 percent of the lists included West’s name among the seven reserves.

Well, one week after everyone was surprised to learn that Chris Paul will start in the 2009 NBA All-Star Game, we have another surprise: the Hornets' 6-foot-9 power forward is joining Paul in Phoenix on Feb. 15. West, who has missed the previous five games due to back spasms, was selected by a vote of the conference’s coaches. It will be the second consecutive appearance for the six-year NBA veteran. The Xavier (Ohio) product is averaging 20.0 points and 7.1 rebounds this season.

You can tell us your reaction to West’s All-Star selection – as well as congratulate CP3 and West on being picked to play in the midseason showcase for a second straight year – by writing in the comments section of this blog.
