HORNETS CELEBRATE THE HISTORY OF BASKETBALL IN NEW ORLEANS WITH TRIBUTE TO NEW ORLEANS BUCCANEERS

Team to wear 1967-68 Bucs uniforms on four dates beginning Dec. 10

December 2, 2008

The Hornets announced today that they will be one of four NBA teams to participate in the NBA Hardwood Classics Nights during the 2008-09 season. The Hornets will honor the 40th anniversary of the New Orleans Buccaneers, a charter member of the American Basketball Association formed in 1967, by wearing the 1967-68 Bucs uniforms during four games this season.

Basketball has a strong history in New Orleans, and celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Bucs is a great way we can pay tribute to the history of that sport in our city, said Hornets Executive Officer of the Board Chad Shinn.

The Hornets will debut the uniforms against the Charlotte Bobcats on Dec. 10 and will also wear the throwback uniforms at home on Jan. 28 against the Denver Nuggets and Feb. 27 against the Milwaukee Bucks. The Hornets will wear the Bucs uniforms on the road in Cleveland against the Cavaliers on Jan. 16.

The Dec. 10 game against the Charlotte Bobcats will feature the Chris Paul Duo Bobblehead giveaway for the first 8,000 fans featuring Paul wearing a Hornets uniform and a Bucs uniform. Former Bucs players, including Bobcats Head Coach Larry Brown who was named MVP of the inaugural ABA All-Star game in 1967, will be honored and recognized throughout the game.

Former Bucs players scheduled to attend include Steve Snapper Jones, Jesse Branson, Ron Franz, Gerald Govan, Ron Widby, James Jones, Lee Davis, Marlbert Pradd, Red Robbins and more.

Other teams participating in the Hardwood Classics Nights include the Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Washington Wizards.
