Hornets Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Monty Williams

On Jarrett Jack and teams overall performance:
Im glad we won. We played hard and played with a lot of grit. Sometimes you have to grit your teeth and play. We didnt have Eric, so we needed to find those 20 points somewhere. Jarrett Jack played very well; he gave us a calming effect and played against Rondo who is one of the best guards in the game. Jarrett was excited to get back in and play tonight. Hes our leader and well need him to play like that all year.

On defensive effort tonight:
During the third quarter, the Celtics cut the lead to about nine so I told the team we needed to toughen up on the defensive side of the ball, and that helped us extended our lead. We needed to make some shots, but it was our defense that lead the way. We did a good job when they went to a zone defense. Actually we practiced against the zone thinking the Suns would use it the other night, so I was pleased that everyone knew their roles.

Hornets Guard Jarrett Jack

On missing the first game:
It was very difficult for me to sit out the game against Phoenix. To come back in the home opener against a great team like Boston, I was very anxious, very excited and I thought we put out a great effort. It was a little tough for me to get my legs under me early on in the game. Having the days off kind of threw off my rhythm. In the second half, I was able to catch my breath and knock down some shots. Were hungry. Were a team that just works hard every day in practice and at both ends of the court in the game. Thats the attitude and mindset we have each and every day.

Hornets Guard Greivis Vasquez

On the win:
Today was a very good day for us. We have to stay humble and come back to work tomorrow for another good day of practice and stay focused. Our bigs did a great job and played extremely hard. They set the tone early and we won. We have to stay humble and continue to bump and grind. Im just happy to be in a place where I can work and develop my game. I feel confident. I feel good. I feel I can help the team. Im going to do whatever coach tells me to do. Im going to work and do whatever it takes to win basketball games.

Celtics Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Doc Rivers

On the play of the Celtics:
I dont think we were tight. I just thought we played tired. We looked old tonight. It happens. It was frustrating because early on it looked like we had things going, and then we turned the ball over in that one stretch and they got the lead, got the energy up. I really never thought we couldnt match their energy.

On the play of the Hornet bigs:
It was a lot of stuff. I thought their guards created most of it, though. I thought their guards beat us off of the dribble most of the night. They lived in the paint. Their defensive bigs were rotating, but if they didnt get the blocked shot or the charge, their guy got the rebound, so our crack backs were terrible. We have to control the ball and stop committing fouls. We had so many fouls in the first half that when you looked at the score differential in the first half, it was the fouls. Our guards were reaching in, and I just thought it kept putting our bigs in bad position. So I thought it was their guards more than their bigs.

Celtics Forward Kevin Garnett

On the Hornets post players getting open tonight:
First off, we are a healthy defensive team. They do a lot of over-sliding. Obviously their other big rolls right up and slides under, and its difficult. I dont think thats what beat us tonight. It was effective at times, but for the most part, I thought we started the game pretty strongly, but we got away from some things, and before you know it were down.

Celtics Center Greg Stiemsma

On his active play tonight:
Im just ready for the opportunity. We talked about maybe getting some minutes tonight with Chris (Wilcox) going down, so I was mentally ready and I just tried to do what I could, bring some energy and get a couple of blocks. We still have to find a way to win.
