Hornets Post Game Quotes
Head Coach Monty Williams
On tonight's game:
I just thought we had to make a lot of adjustments not having Jarrett out there and having Greivis (Vasquez) after one practice. I thought we were undisciplined in the first half and we just gritted it out late. Obviously, all the teams around the league who are playing with new guys are trying to figure things out, but I thought we just stuck with our stuff tonight as far as defending. Holding a team like that in the 80s for us is huge - different guys stepped up. Obviously, Eric (Gordon) hitting some big shots down the stretch. I thought we attacked the basket late and our attention to detail in pick-and-roll defense was better in the second half.
Hornets Guard Eric Gordon
On the game winning shot:
It was a shot that we needed. Battling the Suns, back-and-forth, back-and-forth all game and all the stuff weve been through with a lot of changes through during this offseason, I just wanted this game really bad. The play was set up where I get it on top of the key and just go one-on-one and I just wanted to finish the play, and I did."
Hornets Forward Trevor Ariza
On the end of the game:
It was an ugly game the whole game pretty much for us, but the good thing about us is that we play defense. When you play defense, you always give yourself a chance to stay in the game or possibly win. We cut it to one, I got to the line and tricked off two free throws and Eric (Gordon) saved it.
Suns Post Game Quotes
Head Coach Alvin Gentry
On the offensive performance:
Were a work in progress. I was happy they shot 44 percent and scored 85 points. Those are the games that I think we have to win. But obviously our offense we never got into any kind of flow and Im not so sure if it was what they did defensively. Im sure it was some of that, but a lot of it was what we did offensively. Weve got to get out and run, be able to create space for Steve (Nash) to drive lanes, be able to roll and catch and finish, and then we have to knock down shots.
On tonights loss:
Its one game. Unfortunately for us, we just cant afford to lose home games in a season thats shortened. But it is what it is. We have to just come back and well get a good practice in tomorrow.
Suns Forward Markieff Morris
On NBA debut:
We played good and it was a tough loss, but well bounce back tomorrow.
On comfort level on the court:
Im super comfortable and wasnt really nervous at all. Coach put me in there and I just tried to perform.
On last play of game:
It was a play designed for Steve. They played great defense on him and I made a bad pass. Its something that were going to look at and its going to come with time playing together.
Suns Center Robin Lopez
On how the team played:
I think we did a good job of keeping the mistakes down from the preseason. You can see the work that weve been putting in at practice. If we can make that big of a jump from preseason to this game, I think its a tough loss but if we keep playing with that intensity I think well be ok.
On how he felt in the second half:
I just felt good getting back and playing with the guys and feeding off their enthusiasm and intensity.
On defensive success:
Once again, I think you have to look back at what we did from preseason and we went back and looked at the mistakes we made. The defensive improvements you have to attribute that to the team. We were in the right places but we could have been a step quicker here or there.
