Hornets Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Monty Williams

On the second half:
"Our defense was really good and to hold that team to 37 points (in the second half); I thought they (Hornets) were really tired from the emotional win against Utah. But our defense was pretty good in the first half and the second half, it was even better. They (Grizzlies) missed a lot of shots, but I thought we had little to do with that. And offensively, we trusted each other a little more and our ball movement was better. We did not have as many turnovers, but 15 was still a bit high. 22 assists was not bad. Different guys just stepped up. Overall, I thought it was a good team win, especially since Mr. Benson came to watch us play. Its always good to play in front of your new boss."

On a potential four game win streak:
"You try to go out and win, no matter the situation, whether it is four in a row or five in a row. Since Ive been here, weve had some pretty cool streaks. For us to win and play the right way is much more important to me right now. Id love to get a win because that is what we play for. Weve got some guys that are banged up and we have to go out there and figure it out. Im more pleased with how the guys are competing out there and that says a lot about us. We just have to keep playing that way."

Hornets Forward Jason Smith

On tonights game plan:
"It was really just to come out with a lot of energy and hit them first. Weve got a lot of games coming up, but we know that we have to come out and play hard in every one of them."

On if the Hornets had a special strategy to keep Memphis out of the paint:
"The coaching staff really prepared us well to be mindful of (Marc) Gasol and their high-low passing. They are a really good team. Tonight, we just got a good win."

On four wins in the last five games:
"We really wanted to finish out the season right. The crowd here deserves it. New Orleans as a city deserves it. We really wanted to finish off this season and get some momentum going into next year."

Hornets Guard Xavier Henry

On the Hornets' success this past week:
"I think things are getting better right now as we speak. We won a couple in a row. Were still playing hard. Were not giving up at the end of the season just because our record is not what we want it to be, so I think we are doing a great job of just giving everybody the consistency that they want to see."

Grizzlies Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Lionel Hollins

On the game:
"This wasnt tough, it was ugly. It was nasty. We shot 35%, 25 field goals, we turned the ball over 21 times for 28 points. We scored 75 points. You cant beat anybody scoring 75 points."

On the turnovers being unforced errors:
"Some of them are. Some were careless...whatever we still had them. However they came about whatever the reason, we had them. Our pick and roll defense was atrocious. Our defense period was atrocious. We just didnt muster up the energy that we needed to come out and play against a hard working team in a back to back, at the end of a real tough week. I think this was the fourth in five nights, five in seven days. I mean we played a lot of games the last two weeks, but we still have to come out and play."

Grizzlies Guard Tony Allen

On the game:
"We didnt match their level of intensity. Looking at how the game was played, those guys were playing physical. It got to where it looked like they wanted it more than we did. The good teams find ways to get over these humps. You have to take your hat off to the Hornets because they were the better team tonight. When you look at the scoring, they did it collectively. They played hard and they played together. When a team does that for forty eight minutes, thats normally how the outcome is. We have to bounce back from this and work on our next game. We get those guys again at our place and were going to remember this one. They were more physical. They were the aggressors. They forced us into those turnovers. They played how we normally play. Somehow, they got the edge on us and kept it for forty eight minutes."

Grizzlies Forward Rudy Gay

On the game:
"We were down a little bit. We didnt have a lot of energy and that hurt us. Weve been playing a lot. Its been a tough schedule. This is one of those trips, though, where we face some teams that dont have a lot to play for, but they play hard. Give them credit. They came out, played hard to beat us, and they did. Its the NBA. You can try to play from behind and its not always going to work. Of course, weve won games like this, but not this evening. Its a little bit of both. They always seem to play us well. Its a little bit on us, as well. We were off."
