Hornets Post Game Quotes
Head Coach Monty Williams
On the win tonight:
"Our ability to close out a close game, especially just getting back from a long road trip. Getting guys back into a rhythm is tough after the road trip. I thought we start off somewhat lethargic. Even though we didnt have Jarrett out there tonight our guys adjusted well. Eric did good taking the ball to the basket, although he was a bit passive in the first quarter. We did a good job defensively; we held a team that scores 103 points per game to 92. That was a great effort. We still need to work on our composure; I thought we lost it somewhat tonight after Carl went down. But we got it back after that."
On defending in the fourth quarter:
"In the fourth quarter we had to deal with Lawsons penetration, and him kicking the ball out to open shooters. We did a good job defending that down the stretch. Chris (Kaman) had some really good blocked shots tonight and he created some distractions. He even did a good job of switching on the pick and rolls, something he had been struggling with in the past. Limiting those guys to one shot helped us out a bunch."
On Eric Gordon:
"By putting the ball in Erics hands at the end of the game that caused them to spread out defensively that gave us an advantage and Eric made a play. Eric didnt have his jump shot legs tonight but his ability to take it to the goal enabled some of our guys to follow up his shots and get some easy put backs."
Hornets Forward Jason Smith
On the last play of the game:
"It was a last second decision to put me in the game. We didnt want to give an easy bucket to Al Harrington down in the post. Harrington decided to go out for a three pointer. They lofted the ball. There was great ball pressure by Trevor, or whoever was on the ball, and when they lofted it, I had an opportunity to get under it and get a nice steal.
On the win:
"We had great contributions from everybody. We had six guys in double figures in points. It was a great addition to get Eric Gordon back. Carl Landry gave us great energy coming off the bench. It was a great team effort tonight. Erics return was very much a shot in the arm for our club. Hes a big part of our team and we definitely missed him. We missed Jarrett, but we had eleven guys ready to go, and thats kind of been rare for us lately. We played hard, we played aggressive, and we got a big win tonight. We just have to continue to build and take this momentum into San Antonio. I think it was a good defensive effort on our part, but they were at the end of a long road trip. They just didnt have it tonight. They shot the ball well, but we shot incredibly well and thats a good way to get a win."
Hornets Guard Eric Gordon
On winning the game:
"It feels good to get a win, I played sluggish tonight but a good win is a win. I just need to get adjusted, get back to playing and getting wins like we did tonight. Ill keep working and Ill get better individually. The last shot the coach put the ball in my hands and I needed to make a play. He was real close up on me and I had to give him a head fake and I got him to foul me. I felt good tonight I just need to get back into the routine."
Nuggets Post Game Quotes
Head Coach George Karl
On the bad start of the third quarter:
"My feeling is that our defense broke down in the second half, especially in the third quarter. You cant let a team like New Orleans have a 30 point quarter. Protecting the paint was very poor. In the fourth quarter I thought we did a great job. Another thing that hurt us in the second half was rebounds. We made them miss a lot of shots, and we would get beat with the offensive rebounds. I thought that really hurt us."
On the inbounds play at the end of the game:
"We were trying to get the ball to Arron (Afflalo) or Al (Harrington) and Ty (Lawson) was going to be the decoy. I thought they made a pretty good play of sluffing off of Ty. I thought Al was open early, but not late, and Corey (Brewer) threw it late."
On the message given to the team after this loss:
"We took a good trip and could have made it a great trip. We just didnt get it done. Somehow tomorrow we have to figure out how to stay positive and hopefully get some healthy bodies back on the court. Andre (Miller) getting thrown out of the game was a big play for us. I think he had a very good game going for us. I didnt see the replay, but to me it didnt look like a flagrant 2."
Nuggets Forward Jordan Hamilton
On the loss:
"It was a tough loss, but we fought back. I think that this will build confidence just knowing that everybody coming off of the bench provides something.
On if the team can build on games like this:
"Most definitely. Its a confidence thing for me...just going in and knowing that I can play with these guys. I think that anybody on our team can come off the bench and help out."
On coming close to winning in the end:
"They were knocking down shots and executing in those times when we couldnt make shots. Toward the end, I think that we came through and we just came up short."
