Hornets Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Monty Williams

On being short-handed:
I just love my team. I love my guys. As much as I complain and push, I just love my guys. Those guys fought and battled and have been dealing with adversity all year long. As much as I can be critical and push guys, at the end of the day its hard to find fault with that kind of effort and the way those guys battled. From this mornings shoot-around, I told them that we were probably going to be short. Not one guy blinked an eye. They just said, Hey, lets go out and have some fun and play hard. We obviously made some mistakes in the game, but youre talking about a team (San Antonio) that is destined to make a run at a title. With the way we pushed them tonight, Im kicking myself because I couldnt put us in a position to close that game out.

On the late possessions he would like to have back:
Its easy to critique after the fact. The one time Tony (Parker) just flips the ball over his head, and (Danny) Green hadnt hit a shot all game, he knocks it down. Tim (Duncan) does a good job of pushing to get offensive rebounds. Hes the tallest guy on the floor and the longest guy in Louisiana right now, and he gets a tip-in. Offensively, we wanted to take a three if it presented itself. Jarrett (Jack) gets the switch, and I thought he could have backed him down and then shot a three. He felt like he could get to the basket. We had enough time to get a quick two and try to foul. That would have worked, too, because Green comes back and misses two free throws. From that standpoint, thats the difference between football and baseball. You dont have a lot of time to come up with a play. We work on that kind of stuff all the time. Guys have to make quick reactions. They did some switching at the end of the game, which is what you should do, and forced us into a tough shot.

Hornets Guard Jarrett Jack

On describing his drive to the goal with seven seconds left:
I was just trying to make a play at the basket. My legs were kind of tired at that particular point. I tried to muster it up there, and I just didnt have enough steam to get it up on the glass.

On the team continuing to fight in every game:
Its just us. Its just what we have been bringing to the table all season long. Unfortunately, it hasnt been able to manufacture wins for us in late game situations. It could be an experience factor. It could be guys giving everything that they have in the waning moments and not having enough to finish. Thats our M.O. (to continue playing hard). Thats what coach preaches every night. Effort is the one thing in this game that you can control. Thats what we try to bring to the table for 48 minutes.

Hornets Forward Lance Thomas

On his role as well as the coaches confidence in him:
Its a great accomplishment for the coaches to have the confidence to put me in against a great player like Tim Duncan and a good player like DeJuan Blair. Its a blessing and its also an honor. My job on this team is to make sure that when our guys are back and Im in the game, if Im subbing, that I want to make sure that the level of play doesnt drop.

Spurs Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Gregg Popovich

On the teams play:
I thought that they hung in there. I thought New Orleans was more efficient than we were and executed better than we did. So we just had to hang in there and keep plugging. That is probably the best thing we did, was keep on pushing and at the end of the game it worked out. So we were fortunate."

On DeJuan Blair:
He does what he does. Hes got great hands and he hits the boards hard. Hes real clever around the bucket. Kind of like Landry, they both get things done around there.

On playing the Hornets:
Weve had a tough time here, both times we have been here, just because of what they do. I dont think there is any staff, players or organization has had as difficult of circumstances as them and they continue to play hard every game. Its pretty impressive. It talks a lot of about the character of the players and staff. Its nice to see.

Spurs Guard Tony Parker

On returning back to form:
I felt good overall. It will take a while to get comfortable. The rest helped a lot.

On the win:
It was a hard fought win. Well take it. We had to step up with Manu (Ginobili) and Tiago (Splitter) out.

Spurs Center DeJuan Blair

On the win:
They (Hornets) came out strong. We had to bring out energy and had to play well. It was fun. It was toughtough win.

On playing strong on a back-to-back:
We had to get to a faster break and thats what we had to do. We had to bring energy. We have people that can score. We just have to bring energy and just score. We just play hard.
