| Thursday, March 15, 2012 Final Score: New Orleans 89, Washington 99 Hornets Post Game Quotes Head Coach Monty Williams On 21-7 run in the third: “We used up so much energy to get back into the game and then they hit a couple three’s and got an easy one in transition. After that, you feel like you have to hit a homerun to get back in it instead of doing what you did, which is get some stops. We just didn’t play well tonight, that is the bottom line. Fifty-six points in the first half, that’s poor for us, a team that prides itself on defending and playing hard. They shot 52 percent, 27 fast break points, that is ridiculous. Couple that with not having your best game as a team and it’s a recipe for a loss. That is what we got.” On what break downs allow such high numbers (52%, 27 fast break points, etc.): “When you’re missing shots, if those shots bounce off the rim with velocity they can get out and run. They have team speed and I thought their guards were just running by us tonight time after time. Transition defense is something that you practice in a normal season, you go over it and over it and we haven’t had time to do that. That is no excuse though, if you were playing at the park you’d get back on defense. I just thought they were running it down our throats at the beginning of the game and at the end they got a few transition baskets and that should never happen at the end of a game.” Hornets Guard Jarrett Jack On losing: “It’s a tough one to say the least. It’s one of those losses that you just find yourself shaking your head afterwards. It’s difficult.” On what the goal is the rest of the season: “Just try to get better. Just try to get better as individuals and as a ball club for however many remaining games.” Hornets Forward Trevor Ariza On losing another game: “It’s frustrating losing like this. That’s all I can really say. I hate losing, and we seem to lose almost every time that we step out on the floor. It’s pretty frustrating.” Wizards Post Game Quotes Head Coach Randy Wittman On the trade deadline: “Today was a chaotic day. Nothing happened until this afternoon. Everyone was wondering what was going to happen. It is a tough day always around this time of year. We lost three players that were teammates of ours. Two of them that were here for a while. It is always tough losing teammates. But that is the nature of the business and we have to embrace new teammates. Bottom line, somebody is going to get an opportunity that might have not had the opportunity playing tonight.” On the game tonight: “I thought our guys, for the day being what it was, fought through a lot of adversity to come out here and get a win. I am really proud of those guys in there. It is tough sometimes to go through a day of waiting like we had today.” Wizards Guard Roger Mason, Jr. On the game: “I was being patient and waiting for my opportunity. Tonight, our guys found me and they made great passes. I felt really good and was able to knock some shots down. I said at the beginning of the third quarter that we were having some of the best stretches of defense that we have had all year. I mean guys were talking. Our pick and roll defense was much better tonight. We played unselfishly on defense. Any time you give up your body and guys are talking on defense, it shows.” Wizards Guard John Wall On the game: “We know it’s a game of runs. We knew when we were ahead that the game wasn’t over. We knew they were going to fight back. They hadn’t made their run, so we made our run first to get a comfortable lead so we could still be right there. We just kept fighting and fighting. Roger came in and had some big plays, Shelvin played good. Everybody stepped up and we got a good team win. In the third quarter, we got a big jump and a good lead. I think lately, we’ve been playing as a team and playing hard. When you do that, we give ourselves a chance. We did that the whole game. For forty eight minutes, we played hard. That’s all you can ask for is to give yourself a chance.” |
