Hornets Post Game Quotes
Head Coach Monty Williams
On the game:
Its a good win for us, especially after the way we came out against Toronto. I told the guys, we had a practice this morning it takes me back to my day with Pat Riley and I saw a good layover from that practice; we played hard. Anytime your guards come out and combine for 20 rebounds, you know you are coming together. We had contributions from a number of guys, we hadnt gotten that type of contribution off the bench in a while. If you hold Dirk Nowitzki without a free throw that wasnt in the game plan but, it was brought up by Coach Borrego to try to defend without fouling."
(On the final stretch of the game:
We put (Al-Farouq) Aminu in the game because we needed someone to run with Dirk (Nowitzki) a little bit. Those plays are high risk plays at the end of the game. Usually when a guy makes a shot like that, it goes a little different than what was planned. I dare to say Vince [Carter] and Dirk have been in those situations over 100 times in their careers, and they are more used to it than Chief (Aminu) certainty is. We were just trying to defend and force a tough shot.
Hornets Guard Greivis Vasquez
On the win:
It means a lot. Our fans came out tonight and supported us. It was huge to get a win for our fans, because they have been waiting for a win at home. It says a lot about tonight. It was intense and to come out like this and play against a team like Dallas (Mavericks); that is big time and something that tells you that this team really cares about everyone in the locker room. It was great to get a great win like this.
On having players step up:
I am so happy for X (Xavier Henry). I am extremely happy, because we got drafted together and the night he had tonight was huge for his confidence. It was great for our team, for our future. Solomon (Jones) played great, too. It was a great team victory. We just care about each other too much on the court and off the court. You can see that when we play. Tonight was a great win for us.
Hornets Guard Jarrett Jack
On the last play:
We were up two or three (points) and Coach (Williams) called a time-out. I went up to him and told him I am ready and just give it to me. I dont know if he heard it, but I had the confidence in myself and my team to knock down the shot. My teammates had confidence to put the ball in my hands.
On re-entering the starting lineup:
I did not start well, but I had the ball in my hands. I did not do a good job of taking care of the ball. It is what it is. It does not change my mindset starting or not. It was just allowing me to get my legs back underneath me. Coach made mention that our second unit struggled at manufacturing points. I thought I did a good job of leading the second unit and we had some momentum. The way this season is going if you have any bit of momentum, you have to ride it until it falls.
Mavericks Post Game Quotes
Head Coach Rick Carlisle
On recent losing streak:
We have to fight our way of this. The margins for error are very slim, and we had four or five turnovers that really came at a bad time. Those make a big difference in a game like tonight. They played a great game. All 48 minutes, they just played harder than us. We did a good job fighting back in the fourth [quarter], but it wasnt enough. They had a few guys that stepped up and played very well.
Mavericks Guard Jason Kidd
On play of Rodrigue Beaubois and bouncing back:
The nice thing about this season is you get a chance to come back very quickly. We didnt rebound well tonight, and if you dont get rebounds youre not going to beat anybody. Roddy played great tonight; we just didnt do enough to help him out.
Mavericks Center Brendan Haywood
On losing the battle of the boards:
This game was won on the boards. They did a great job on the boards and it showed. We must do a better job of securing the rebounds going forward. If we do a better job on the boards, we win this game. I cant explain our poor start. All I know is we need to get going sooner and not fall behind.
