Hornets Post Game Quotes
On the game:
Its our kind of game where we can be that efficient on offense. We had a number of buckets in the paint tonight, which is what we love, and we held a team in the 80s. When weve held a team to under 86 points, weve been undefeated this year. We gave them one more point, but thats the kind of game weve been playing all year long. When we win ugly games like that, those games feel good to us.
On being sensitive to the pace of play:
When David (West) is out there, we are not going to run, but Trevor (Ariza) and Willie (Green) do a good job forcing the tempo a little bit when they run the wings. We are an opportunity fast-break team; weve been that all year long. The bottom line is when we defend like that, and that team is a dangerous team with Blake (Griffin) and Randy Foye playing lights out and Eric Bledsoe is scary with his penetration. I thought Chris (Paul) did a good job of keeping him (Bledsoe) out of the paint and then attacking him on the other end. To me, in the defense I thought the play that really exemplified who we are was when (Al-Farouq) Aminu had a chance to attack the basket and Aaron (Gray) went up and got it, he fouled him but we dont give up layups and thats the mentality we have to have.
On the defense on Blake Griffin:
Well that is one of our packages in our defense; we try to trap from underneath the basket. We watched them versus Orlando, Coach [Michael] Malone talked to his dad (Orlando assistant coach Brendan Malone) about it and they did the same thing to them. Coach [James] Borrego watched it on tape and it was effective tonight. Then, we backed off of it late in the game because we didnt want to give up three, but we thought we had to cut the head off at the stake because we didnt want him to get going. Last night, in Oklahoma City, he had 28 and 11, so we just tried to make it tough on him.
It was a good win; a good defensive effort on our part as a team. It was some of the things weve been going over in practice: getting back to our fundamentals, stopping guys from getting to the paint, making sure we box out and rebound. We did that and kept them in the eighties. When we do that, were a good team.
Today was a good win. We won it playing the way we want to play. We didnt let them get over a hundred points. They didnt get as many offensive rebounds as they usually do. Theyre first or second in the league in offensive rebounds. We did a good job keeping them of the offensive glass. We were helping each other out. Were a help team and thats what we were trying to get back to.
Clippers Post Game Quotes
On the cause of the amount of turnovers:
Youth. We have a lot of young guys. A couple of our veteran guys turned it over also. Our back court turned it over, Blake (Griffin), Chris (Kaman), everybody and multiple times. You cant win like that. You got too many of those guys that have bad habits. I didnt think we handled the double teams well. I thought Blake could have used his escape dribble a little bit. I didnt think we got behind the ball enough. When you turn it over that much you have to play on your heels, and when you have a guy like Chris Paul, hell pick you apart. We made some runs in the second half, but we couldnt put enough offensive fire power out there to put any pressure on them. And we made a couple of mental mistakes giving up some threes at the end.
On maybe having a rebounding advantage with Emeka Okafor out:
I dont know. They shot 50-percent. We just didnt have an advantage tonight. It wasnt anything in particular. I thought our guys were going to the glass, but you have to get back in transition with Chris (Paul). I thought we were a little more aggressive in the 2nd half. We got to the free throw line, we shot the three a little bit better, but we have to get the defensive field goal percentage down. With 23 turnovers, youre going to give up some transition hoops and its going to help their (Hornets) field goal percentage. You gotta take away easy baskets in this game.
On the loss:
Turnovers (hurt us). We let our offense affect our defense and vice versa. We didnt get stops. We came down the floor and kind of rushed into things and turned the ball over.
On not having Baron Davis healthy:
Its unfortunate. Thats the way things happen. Everybody deals with injuries. Weve just got to find a way to get better.
On trying to get better as a team:
Were just going to keep on fighting and keep trying to stay together. All of the guys around herewere all good guys. We just want to try to compete.
You cant win turning the ball over on any level. Thats been our problem all year. Weve just got to continue to get better and continue to practice.
