Hornets Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Monty Williams

On struggling to hold onto first half lead:
“We played badly down the stretch of that first half. It carried over into the second half. I don’t know how talk about another team getting 39 free throws. That’s a lot of free throws for one team. Some of the explanations I’m getting, I’m still trying to figure that out. We certainly have to regroup and get ready for tomorrow. I told our team that this is all about growing up individually and as a team. You’re going to deal with runs in the NBA. We didn’t deal with their run well tonight. It can’t affect the way that you play the game or your attitude. I’m seeing a lot of that. It’s frustrating to lose games, but you’re never out until the last horn goes off. We talked about trusting the system. Nash was knocking down some two’s, but the game plan versus Phoenix is always to take away their three point shots. We did that in the first half. I thought we got a little frustrated with Nash scoring a little bit. Their bench came in and did a great job. Telfair and Price, Warrick and Childress, those guys did a great job and basically extended their lead. We never were able to recover from that. Down the stretch, I thought we just got frustrated with the situation and let the game go.”

Hornets Guard Jarrett Jack

On too many turnovers:
“They are a real high powered offensive team. Whenever you give them extra possessions, they do a really good job of capitalizing off of them.”

On letting the game get out of their control:
“We had the game in hand and had a rhythm to the game that was in our favor. To let them come back in that fashion in the quick manner that they did is just difficult.”

Hornets Forward Trevor Ariza

On the loss:
“They came in and made some shots. We turned the ball over at the wrong times. In the frontcourt, I came in and didn’t give us the lift that we needed.”

On not getting points in the paint in the second half:
“They played well. We didn’t play well in the second half. We didn’t do the things that we did in the first half. This is the result.”

On Steve Nash’s performance:

“He was real good. He didn’t force anything. He took what we were giving him and was big for their team.”

Suns Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Alvin Gentry

On the game:
“We shot the ball well. I thought that was a big key. We had good rhythm in our offense. The defensive job that Sebastian (Telfair) did and I thought Ronnie Price came in and did a good job defensively. Obviously when Steve (Nash) is going like that we’re pretty good. He was real aggressive offensively and shot the ball well. I thought we did a good job in our spin and roll offense of rolling and getting some more easy baskets.”

On the free throw advantage:
“We attacked the basket. I thought we did a good job of getting them in rotation and because they were in rotation we had some opportunities to get offensive rebounds that ended up being fouls which ended up being foul shots.”

Suns Forward Josh Childress

On the win:
“Good night. We fought back and got the win. We did it defensively and had successful stops that allowed us to get on the (fast) break. We got that going on and it was a great team effort tonight.”

On his shooting:
“I’m still getting there; still trying to find my rhythm. The main thing is getting to the glass and helping defensively. They still find me in low-cuts. Good defense is something that the team really needs and that’s what I try to do.”

Suns Guard Jared Dudley

On the second half:
“At the end of the second quarter, we were behind by eight or nine and came within four (points). By the second half, the energy by Steve (Nash) obviously had me going the whole night. More guys got involved for us and we had more than two or three guys scoring. And defensively, we were bad for three quarters, but by that fourth quarter; in those eight minutes, we got stops and got a lot of steals. Good win for us and we needed a bounce-back win.”
