Hornets Post Game Quotes
Head Coach Monty Williams
On the start of the game:
Surprised? No. I get a feel for our team the way we come out in the first quarter. I thought the effort in the first quarter was kind of there, but not really assertive the way it was. I thought we were desperate for the game against Orlando. I thought we came out tonight as if well show up, and if they played well, then we would start to play hard. We are in no position to do that with the talent and experience we have on our team. I was really disappointed in the kinds of shots we took tonight. We had guys on fast breaks pulling up for threes. We couldnt initiate an offense due to their pressure, so we would late clock violations to where we couldnt get shots off. I thought our guard play tonight was below average. You thought if you hold Joe Johnson for 4 for 15 or 4 of 16 you would take that, and we had that tonight and couldnt capitalize on it. Its certainly a game that you have to flush around the toilet, but I was really disappointed in the effort tonight especially at home with a day in between games.
Hornets Forward Trevor Ariza
On frustrating loss tonight:
Its frustrating. I just think its us. Were not doing what we need to do to win. I dont think its anything anybody is doing out there. Its about us and were not playing winning basketball right now. Everybody in this locker room knows that. We feel like we can compete with anybody just because we play hard and we play defense. But we havent been doing it and its frustrating when we know we can.
On setting the tempo early:
We wanted to run them. We knew that they were tired coming off back to back. We decided to get out in transition and make a couple of baskets.
Hornets Forward Carl Landry
On losing by such a large margin:
Its frustrating and it hurts. As much work as we put in watching film and as much work as we put in at practice, to come out and play like thisits tough, man. Youre going to have these kinds of nights. Every team in the league is. We just have to put this one behind us as soon as we can and get ready for tomorrow. They play [defense]. We just got away from playing Hornets basketball and we were sloppy out there in the third quarter. We tried to fight back in the fourth quarter, but it was a little too late.
Hawks Post Game Quotes
Head Coach Larry Drew
On the fast start:
It was key, but to be honest I wasnt satisfied after that first quarter. I was happy we got off to the fast start but I saw a few defensive breakdowns, the missed some early shots but Id like to credit those misses to our defense. Im most proud about this win is the way we maintained our composure. We got off to a somewhat of a slow start in the third quarter, thats why I called the timeout after their first two buckets, just so we could settle down and not panic and we came back out of the timeout and put our foot on the gas and just took off. It was nice that we were able to rest a few of the guys and not have to play so many minutes. This team has been a pesky team for us and for a lot of other teams and they have been right there at the end, Im just glad we were able to come out with a win.
Hawks Guard Jeff Teague
On being in the zone tonight:
Im just playing. Taking the shots that are open and I happened to make them tonight.
On playing well early in the game:
We were making shots, we were moving the ball good as a team, guys were making shots, playing well and playing defense and that was big.
Hawks Guard Willie Green
On everyone contributing:
Yea definitely, thats one of the reasons why we have to capabilities of being a real good team. Our starters set the tone and our substitution guys can come in and have big nights, and each one of us has done it already, so I think having a deep bench with this kind of season being condensed with six games with a little bit of time it helps guys stay pretty much healthy having rest time.
On individually having success tonight:
I put it in my mind that I wanted to be a little extra aggressive tonight, playing against a former team I wanted to have some bragging rights against my old buddies, but New Orleans has been an awesome experience for me, last year was such a blessing to play with Coach Monty (Williams), all the guys in the locker room, that whole organization and I have nothing but love for this city and this organization. God closes one door, man he opens up another one and thats my situation and Im just thankful for the opportunity that I have with the Hawks.
