Hornets Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Monty Williams
On playing out of character:
It started in the first quarter. I just thought that (DeMarcus) Cousins had his way with us. We put up no resistance, didnt guard the ball well. We had chances down the stretch but the beginning of the second quarter we were down 12 points. It was hard to recover from that. It felt like 20 points on the road because it was so easy and so quick. Its one of those games that you see some of those mistakes we made in past games and it just caught up with us tonight. There will be some good teaching points in film tomorrow.

On cutting the lead down:
They responded by hitting big shots, getting offensive rebounds. We had some costly turnovers down the stretch. I thought that we played too much one-on-one tonight from our guards. We passed the ball and held it and they were able to just load up on us and then zone. Then we tried to play one-on-three, one-on-two, theyre so long its hard to get in there. Especially when youre not an athletic team, you cant explode on guys. You have to play team basketball a little bit better.

On the team's defensive alertness:
It wasnt there tonight at all. I saw some slippage last game against Golden State. The ability to guard the ball hasnt been there. We played against the guys that put the ball down on the floor really well. Its hard to guard the guys by yourself. Our team defense has to overcome that. We just didnt do a good job of that tonight.

Hornets Forward David West
On tonights game:
We were a step behind. I thought they came out aggressively. They got some good players but collectively were supposed to beat that team.

On the frustrating loss:
We were supposed to handle the team. We just came out with the wrong attitude. We just couldnt guard them. We didnt stop that enough. We didnt stop them nearly enough to win the game.

On the Kings having their way in the middle:
We just didnt come out. We couldnt guard them. We couldnt stop them at those positions.

Kings Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Paul Westphal
That was a very satisfying night for us. To be able to back up last nights win with a win over a team that just won 10 in a row, that had beaten us in close games twice - It felt like real progress for our team. Weve witnessed DeMarcus Cousins, back to back now, really play dominant games and I told him now that youve done it two nights in a row, we expect it every night, games just like this and like the Lakers. He was just fantastic tonight - defensively, rebounding, scoring, passing, it was quite a night. And Sam Dalembert made David West work for everything, particularly in the second half. It was a really great performance. I thought off the bench, Luther Head, who hasnt been playing very much at all, came in and really gave us some very much needed minutes guarding Chris Paul. It was just a real good night for the Kings.

On whats different now from when you won two games in a row early this season:
We think weve steadily been getting better. The last hurdle seemed to be the ability to close games, hold a lead and win on the road. And also beat a good team. Three out the last four games weve done that; I thought we played pretty well against a real hot Charlotte team. We just couldnt make baskets, but it was good basketball anyway. Just steady improvement, getting healthy. I think Tyrekes ankles are feeling better. I think DeMarcus is getting a feel for the NBA game and really controlling his passion extremely well. Sam Dalembert is playing some excellent basketball, where it took him awhile to find his stride for us. Just in general, were trusting each other and doing a good job moving the ball and playing defense.

On Samuel Dalemberts recent play:
I think hes got his timing and he has a feel for what he can do with our other players and its just been an adjustment period I think.

On whether or not we will see the Cousins, Dalembert combination again:
I like that combination. We were able to do it tonight, again, because we had some matchups that would allow us to play them together on defense, and that really the primary reason for doing it. When you look at the teams coming up, I think theres a good chance well be able to see a lot of that. As a matter a fact, Im not sure if Jason Thompson is going to be available next game since hes day to day with a sprained ankle. So well see what happens with the starting lineup depending on how Jasons ankle is.

On what DeMarcus said to Chris Paul after he threw Beno Udrih to the floor:
If he got a technical I wouldnt have liked it but he was protecting his teammate. At that stage of the game, at all costs, you dont want a technical, but you especially want your big fellas to protect your team.

On DeMarcus recently:
Ill tell you DeMarcus, for the last several games, I wouldnt know where to start the count but his leap in poise and competitive maturity has been phenomenal. We always want to be on the lookout for an explosion, but hes been extremely well contained and his play has been reflective of that.

Kings Center DeMarcus Cousins
It feels good another big win for this team, another momentum boost. Hopefully we can just keep this winning streak going and try to turn things around.

When asked what he said to Chris Paul:
Basically just clean it up. I know Im a rookie but I cant sit there and let him hurt my point guard. Just being a teammate.

When asked if that was a natural reaction:
Yeah, its a natural thing. Its nothing against Chris Paul; Im just being a teammate. I go to battle with these guys every night and if weve got to take it that way, weve got to go. Im just having my teammates back.

On becoming the go-to guy on the floor:
I believe Im just playing a lot better and its starting to show. The teams playing great ball, sharing the ball, playing great team defense and its resulting, were getting Ws. Hopefully well just keep it going.

On when asked if he feels the team has a chance at redemption during this next homestand:
Yeah, we do. Weve kind of had a lot of chippy games. Weve got a good home streak going and hopefully we can get a W on each of those.

Kings Guard Tyreke Evans
It felt good. We came out aggressive like coach said. We just came from beating the World Champs so we just tried to come out and jump on them early, and thats what we did.

On Coach Westphal looking to DeMarcus Cousins as a go-to guy:
Hes just being aggressive. Hes making good moves, hes been getting fouls and hes making a lot of tough shots for us.

When asked how DeMarcus playing well makes his job easier on the court:
It means a lot eases pressure. Thats what we were missing when I was in foul trouble he still came in played good minutes for us, got some good baskets.

When asked if he feels the team has a chance at redemption during this next homestand:
Definitely. Like I said, I think were a different team. Weve been playing together more. We just go out there and play. We used to just think people were trying to find out their role; I think everybody pretty much knows their role on the team now.
