Hornets Post Game Quotes
Head Coach Monty Williams
On the win:
Any time you hold a team like that to 67 points, you get excited about the fight and the character of our team to be able to come out and play as hard as they do every single night. I hope our fans understand this transition hasnt been easy. We have a ways to go. I can look at the stats sheet and point out a number of things, but when Im in that locker room and in that huddle and the guys are supporting one another, out there fighting for one another and playing the way they played tonight, it makes the prospects in the future for our organization look bright.
On the keys to the teams success tonight:
I just think our guys care. A lot of these guys come from winning programs. It wasnt like they were trying to lose games nor were we coaching to lose games. I just felt like we were just running up against teams that were playing at a high level. If you look at our schedule, we played Oklahoma City, Memphis and a number of teams that will be in the playoffs this year, and we beat ourselves. I thought tonight was a game where we didnt beat ourselves. We only had 13 turnovers. Thats on the cusp of being in a grey area for us. We shot the ball OK. Our free throws were a bit disappointing, but we rebounded the ball, and our defense was really good in stretches tonight.
Hornets Forward Jason Smith
On the win:
It feels good. Weve got to get back on a winning track. We played really hard tonight. We had really good defense. Weve just got to keep on continuing to play hard and get more games.
On setting the tempo early:
We wanted to run them. We knew that they were tired coming off back to back. We decided to get out in transition and make a couple of baskets.
Hornets Guard Jarrett Jack
On how special it is to win with his great-grandfather in attendance:
Thats an unbelievable feeling. Nobody really believes me that he is 102 years old and still walking around. I look over at the end of the game and hes dancing and having the time of his life.
On the win:
The performance that the guys put on tonight, I just wanted to sit back and watch and applaud them. With all of the hard work that we have put in, it just seemed to come to pass tonight. We didnt plan on it having to be this long (before we won at home), but you have to start somewhere. Tonight, hopefully, was our stepping stone.
On where the Hornets took over tonight:
Hats off to our bigs. They had a tough challenge against the most physically imposing player in the league. Emeka (Okafor), Carl (Landry), Jason (Smith), Gustavo (Ayon)they battled this kid (Dwight Howard) all night. The perimeter did a good job.
Magic Post Game Quotes
Head Coach Stan Van Gundy
On the game:
We were just awful. Its the three worst losses I think weve had since Ive been here in five days. Its tough to take. I dont know. We were sitting at 11-4 and playing pretty well and then all of a sudden, other than the Indiana game, have just fallen apart. We have to figure it out; its my job to figure it out and then well be back to what were trying to do.
On the recent offensive struggles:
The only thing we did tonight was just dump the ball to Dwight (Howard). It didnt matter what we called. We had no energy coming off of screens, the ball didnt move, guys didnt want to shoot the ball. Its very very bad right now. Its a matter of energy and execution and things, and we dont seem able to conjure that up right now. Part of it was probably fatigue. We tried to play a lot of guys tonight. Again, its squarely on me and I have to get it figured out and were going to try to do that in the next couple of days.
Magic Forward Earl Clark
It was real tough. We couldnt get it going offensively. It seemed like they got to all the loose balls and offensive rebounds. It just wasnt a good night tonight. Anytime you turn the ball over that many times, you cant expect to win. We just have to bounce back next game and play the best that we can. It happens like that sometimes in this league. Thats one thing about the NBA, theres always another game coming up.
