Hornets Post Game Quotes
Head Coach Monty Williams
On the game tonight:
I told the players its hard to get on them about anything after you lose three games by a combined total of six points. Its tough, but thats the NBA. Its a cruel league if you end up on the other end of the win. For me, losing is horrible; but for the players it hurts even more because they are out there playing, running around giving their all trying to do their best. I hope our fans see that. These guys have no quit. We certainly can do some things better against a team that has probably been in that situation over 200 times in the past 15 years. They executed well down the stretch. We had some trouble finishing a few plays, but I thought overall our defense got better. We gave up a 30 point quarter, and after that we played close to our style of defense.
On Tim Duncans play at the end of the game:
Yes, as soon as they came out I could see Pop [Gregg Popovich] talking to Tim and I told Emeka [Okafor] its coming to you. He made a tough shot. Youd take that defense every time. You have a seven-foot guy shooting a one-legged hook shot from the free throw line. Youll take it every time. Its just that hes been there, done that. That is why he is one of the best power forwards of all time and one of the best players in the history of the game. Those situations dont bother him.
Hornets Guard Greivis Vasquez
On the last three losses:
Its very hard to explain it. I thought we played great tonight. We have been playing great the last three games. Unfortunately, things didnt go our way in the last minute. Its just tough. Were working, the work ethic is there. We are doing everything (we can), to do whatever it takes to win games. Were just coming up short.
Hornets Guard Jarrett Jack
On the loss:
Its extremely frustrating. The good part is that we gave ourselves a chance. Thats all that you can really ask for in this league. It just comes down to making plays. There are a couple that I am kicking myself about that I wasnt able to complete.
Spurs Post Game Quotes
Head Coach Gregg Popovich
On the play of Tony Parker:
Hes Tony Parker. Hes a scoring guard, so hes in the area of constantly getting hounded by me because he scores when he assists and when he assists, I tell him he needs to score. Hes doing a great job of both with Manu (Ginobili) being gone. Hes scoring for us, but hes finding players and involving everybody. Hes doing a great job of keeping us together.
On the win:
It was a tough game. With those guys (Hornets), I know what their record is, but I watch their film and their energy level; their defensive tenacity. They stick with it. They keep going and they do not give in Coach Monty and those guys have done a great job of keeping them active. You lose a few games and that is tough to do. But theyre doing it, theyre playing their butt off. Shot-wise, they have been a little challenged like us. Shots have to go in.
On the bench:
The bench actually performed better than our starting lineup. In the first quarter, they kept us in it when we were down. From then on, it was a pretty tit-for-tat game. We were fortunate down the stretch and we made one in this one."
Spurs Forward Richard Jefferson
On the game winning shot:
We were able to hit some shots. They played a terrific game. We were just fortunate enough to get a great look by a great player in Tim [Duncan].
On the bench play:
They got off to a hot start. We were able to weather it a little bit with the way the bench played. This was a game where everyone contributed and thats what you need to get victories.
Spurs Guard Tony Parker
On the last play of the game:
Pop called the play for Timmy and he was aggressive. He was aggressive the whole game and looked good. I think those two days off really helped him. He hit a nice shot. It was a mix of Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Magic Johnson, a kind of sky-hook and well take it.
On the win:
Your whole body hurts more when you lose. When you win, it feels good. Weve had some bad luck the last two nights and tonight, too, it could have gone either way. But tonight, it finally bounced our way. Its always sweet on the road. New Orleans is a tough team. They have a great defense and its always hard to win here."
