Final Score: New Orleans 100, Atlanta 59

Hornets Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Monty Williams
I thought it was a poised game by our club. For Quincy (Pondexter) to find out just before the game he was going to start and then score the first five points I thought was a big lift. He also made it tough on Joe Johnson tonight. This was definitely a team win as everybody contributed tonight. To hold that team to 59 points says a lot about our defense.

Atlanta has got guys like Joe (Johnson) and Jamal Crawford who can go for 40 or 50, so it was key for our defense to make it hard for them tonight. To win by that many only scoring 100 points again says a lot about our defense. Our bench played well, too. When a bench comes in, sometimes there can be a letdown, but that wasnt the case tonight, and that was also a key. I thought our bench came in with the mindset of playing solid defense, which really helped us tonight.

Hornets Guard Marco Belinelli
We played a great game against a great team tonight. We were ready for them and played great defense. They may have missed some easy shots, but we really played great defense tonight. We wanted to take advantage of the second half to still improve and continue to play our game. I think that was really important.

Hawks Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Larry Drew:
When we werent able to make shots, it seemed like we started pressing. We started pressing very early some quick turnovers, and then they made shots. After they got to a double-digit lead, it seemed like it really went south after that. At halftime, after I spoke with the guys, I elected to go with Jamal starting the second half, just to try to generate some offense, because in the first half, we could not make shots, we did not execute very well. I just thought Jamal could be Jamal. What hes been doing all year for us is coming out and getting us going with the offense. And he struggled as well.

Offensively, we just couldnt make shots and we just panicked. We just lost our composure. Then we had defensive breakdowns, and the game just totally slipped away from us. But as I told the guys afterwards, nobody wants to lose that way, especially at home. Thats very embarrassing to lose in that fashion. We have to bounce back from us. Its not a situation where we can sit around and hang our heads very long, because we have another ball game to play in less than 24 hours.

Hawks Guard Jamal Crawford:
We just came out and laid an egg. Unfortunately, teams go through situations like that over the course of an 82-game season. You just hate to have it happen to you. But the best thing about it is we have a game tomorrow, so we have an opportunity to bounce back.

Id be lying if I said games like this are easy to forget. But if you lose by one or lose by 40, its still a loss. You just have to move on. Its not like football where we have to wait a week. So we have an opportunity tomorrow.

Hawks Guard-Forward Maurice Evans:
It wasnt the easiest thing to do, but you just have to show character and keep fighting. You have to tip your hat to the Hornets. They stuck with it, played hard, and played together as a team. We just came out and didnt give the type of effort that warranted a win.
