Hornets Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Monty Williams

On letting a comeback slip away in the fourth quarter:
A number of things happened down that stretch. We missed those two free throws. We could have cut it to one. I think we fouled a three-point shooter. I thought that we kind of hung our heads a little bit because we knew that those were things that we could control, and we didnt. You dont want to boil it down to one segment of the game, but that was an important stretch. We just had too many breakdowns tonight. If you think about how many dunks they had after we played good defense, made a rotation, and had a breakdown on the weak side and they get a layup. I thought that was a stretch that kind of hurt us.

Hornets Forward DaJuan Summers

On the teams effort:
Its still building. Were still young and were still growing. I think well be alright.

On the play of Kevin Durant:
Hes the scoring champion of the league two times. You cant stop guys like that from scoring, but you can try to make them take tough shots, which he did that tonight. Its a group effort to guard guys like that. Its not a one man assignment.

Hornets Guard Jarrett Jack

On tonights game:
We showed that we can come out and jump on teams early, but we also showed we have difficulty of sustaining it for 48 minutes. Ultimately, its frustrating. Taking care of the ball is crucial for us. When they convert [turnovers] into points, its kind of like a double-edged sword. We need to do a better job of taking care of the ball.

Thunder Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Scott Brooks

On the second unit sparking the team:
I dont think we came out and played very well to start the game, but thats going to happen at the beginning of a long season. Thats why you need a (second) team. You need a team to come in and come through for the whole group. I thought the second quarter was a big part of our win tonight. We gave up that last point but held them to a 19-point quarter. They came out and played well. Defensively, they got after it and got stops. When the starters came back out in the third quarter, the play was better, and we played as well defensively as we could possibly play in those eight minutes of basketball. Kevin (Durant) really was good tonight. He made some tough shots. He made some good shots. He made some big plays for us, and he rebounded the basketball. We need him to do that, and he did it. Russell (Westbrook) really did a good job of being a floor leader and picking his spots.

On if the team emphasized getting out on fast breaks in the second half:
We always want to emphasize that, but it has to be coming off of a stop. We dont want to run when the ball goes through the net. We want to be able to defend, contest, rebound and run and in that order. Our guys understand that. We are an effort-based team, and when we play like that were fun to coach, and those guys enjoy playing with each other. Thats what the game is supposed to be about.

Thunder Forward Nick Collison

On the Thunder's start of the game:
"We had a muddy start, we didnt have that extra juice we usually have , I think it was the schedule, but we got it going. That was the kind of game in the past that we may have stayed in the funk, but we were able to snap out of it and play well. Kevin is playing very efficient this year and you can see his growth."

Thunder Forward Kevin Durant

On tonights start:
"We started off really slow, but we finally picked it up. Our second team came in the second quarter and picked us up. It cool that we were able to come in here after a stretch of several games and I think that will help us our when this situation in schedule comes back again. We were able to win several games over a short period that can only give us confidence down the line."
