Hornets Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Monty Williams

On when the game got away:
The fourth quarter. We came out of halftime saying that all we had to do was win quarter-by-quarter and we won the third quarter. In the fourth quarter we couldnt muster the same kind of efficiency on offense. We were getting enough stops, we held them to 94 points, we had some silly turnovers down the stretch.

On what this game means:
I think its a step forward. I think when you can compete like that on the road and give yourself a chance to win, with a team thats undermanned, playing against a full deck across the locker room its a step forward. If we can compete like that and get all of our guys healthy, we are going to win some games.

Hornets Forward Jason Smith

On setting the tone with his offense:
I just tried to have good energy. Coming out in a back-to-back you just have to play hard. I just want to go out there and play hard for our team.

On Utahs advantage inside:
They were 50, we were 32 points in the paint. Thats something we have to correct. We know the Jazz are a physical team and they are difficult team to play at home.

Hornets Guard Jarrett Jack

On the difference down the stretch:
We just had some things that didnt go our way. Some shots we normally make, or we would like to have, didnt bounce down for us. I thought we fought hard, thats the type of mentality you have to have when you come into this building. They pulled it out in the end. Their bigs played well for them down the stretch. They got some loose balls, got some tip-ins. That ended up winning the game for them.

On being happy with his individual performance:
Yeah, but in the end if you dont get the W its all for not. Obviously, I wanted to come out and have a more positive effect on the game than I did last game, but it still wasnt enough. You just got to go home and be ready. We have a Philly team that has been playing some pretty good basketball at the beginning of the season and have to be ready to protect home court.

Jazz Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Tyrone Corbin

On Devin Harris:
Hes starting to see it and the guys are starting to read off of him. He is understanding the time of the game and the sense of urgency when we want to have the ball in his hands to be able to make plays for us. He is getting better, the guys are getting better reading off of him. We still have some things to work out but its getting better.

On the Jazzs offensive rebounding:
Well, we talked about it. We missed some rotations and they made some shots on us early in that third quarter. They were shooting 69 percent in that quarter. We didnt feel real aggressive enough and I think in the fourth quarter they only scored 16 points but I want to say, in the last four minutes when we cranked it up on them, I thought we did a great job of playing good defense and not letting them get the offensive rebounds as they did before the last four minutes of the game.

Jazz Forward Josh Howard

On C.J. Miles limited playing time in the first half:
He came out, not hanging his head, staying with it. He made some big shots for us, a couple big plays.

On the teams January schedule:
It can be a good month. Like I said, we need to find a way to communicate better on defense and its good that we have a lot of practice time to do that.

On Jazz fans:
I love them.

Jazz Guard C.J. Miles

On winning the game:
It builds up the camaraderie of the teamlike guys getting together pulling for each other, playing hard for each other. Being able to pull out a win just shows that we shouldnt be down in the first place we can beat these teams.

On Devin stepping up and being a leader on the court:
He is doing what he is supposed to be doing. He is being aggressive, putting guys in the right places. Getting the guys when they need it. Were flourishing because of that because he is being aggressive and being himself and not thinking as much.

Jazz Center Al Jefferson

On the game:
I think it started with our defense. When we get stops it kind of opened our offense up. In the third quarter we kind of traded baskets back-to-back-to-back. But we kind of broke it down to what we needed to and got some stops in the last six minutes of the fourth. We proved that we could do it.

On playing with different line ups:
Its fine. Everybody knows their role, everybody pretty much knows the offense and were getting better and better. Josh is really looking more and more comfortable in the offense. It isnt really a big difference on me playing with different lineups.
