Postgame report: From the Pelicans' locker room

Pelicans Coach Monty Williams
On bench play
“It’s nice to be able to plug guys in especially when the starters don’t have their normal juice and I didn’t think collectively the starters had it tonight. I thought Tyreke (Evans) came in and gave us an edge, Ryan (Anderson) as well, and I thought Austin (Rivers) did a particularly good job in the second half of just agitating whatever was going on. I wouldn’t call it a luxury yet because we’re a work in progress, but it was nice to be able to go to the bench.”

On reaching the goal
“(Our) Goal was to hold the team below 45 percent from the field and we did that tonight.”

On defense
“Still a lot on defense that we need to get better at and we’ll be a better team once we do that.”

Pelicans forward Anthony Davis
On overcoming the previous game’s loss
“It was a tough loss. We had it on our minds, getting on that plane leaving Utah with the feeling of the defeat. We are just trying to have a good home stand while we’re here for a couple weeks and get things back moving forward.”

On the keys to beating Utah tonight
“Playing defense and playing hard. Coach told us to pick it up. So we came out with a lot of energy on defense after halftime, especially after the first two or three minutes. We had to do that. They started making a run at us, so we had to calm that run. We made our own run and had to play solid defense.”

Pelicans forward Ryan Anderson
On coming back from injury to have two quality games
“I feel pretty good. My energy level feels good. My foot felt good tonight. I just want to come in, play hard, knock down all my shots, move the ball, and space the floor. If we can space the floor it makes it really difficult for teams to guard us.”

On chemistry with Tyreke Evans off the bench
“He’s a great player. He really draws a lot of attention. We know when he’s going to the basketball because two guys will be focused on him. He does a great job of finding me. I think we have so much more to do and a lot to grow on, but it has been a great start and he makes it so much easier on me.”
