Postgame report: From the Pelicans' locker room

Pelicans Coach Monty Williams
On the game
“Just a bad game from us as a team, collectively. Obviously, Brian (Roberts) had 18 (points), and A-Mo (Anthony Morrow) was really good off the bench. Greg (Stiemsma) was decent tonight before he got into foul trouble. We just had 17 turnovers. Really didn’t have much defensive effort in the third quarter for whatever reason. We played decent in the first half, but our third quarter was about as bad as we’ve seen this year. We certainly can’t play like that on the road against any team.”

On Anthony Davis
“I just took him out. At some point, you look at a guy and he wanted to play, and I just said no. We’re not in the playoffs. Every game for me is a championship game, but I’ve got to be smart. I just felt like he couldn’t do what he wanted to do and it didn’t look good with him on the floor. He said he kind of tweaked it a little bit when he went into the crowd, so that kind of set him back, because he was feeling okay until then.”

On getting close to tying in the fourth quarter
“We drew up a play. We get to where we can cut it to three, we drew up a play, and it’s one of the few times in an NBA game where you run the play perfectly, get an open shot, and we just missed an open look. That’s really all you can ask for, especially on the road. If we could have tied it up and gone into overtime, that would have been great. I’m happy that Darius (Miller) took the shot with confidence. That’s something that he can grow from and build confidence. But we dug ourselves such a hole. We shouldn’t have been there.”

Pelicans Forward Anthony Davis
On fighting back late
“We fought, got it back and got the shot with Darius (Miller) at the end. He just missed it. We had our opportunities to get the win.”

On missing chances down the stretch
“We missed a couple free throws, turned the ball over, and on the road we can’t afford to do that.”

Pelicans Guard Brian Roberts
On Jazz scoring spurts
“There were just some spurts they had we couldn’t overcome. I think we were fairly even throughout the game but they made some spurts we just couldn’t answer, and that was the difference”

On Darius Miller’s missed three attempt to tie the game in fourth quarter
“That’s exactly what we wanted. We had Tyreke (Evans) with the ball looking to find shooters and he found Darius (Miller) who shot the ball and it was the best look we could ask for, and it just didn’t go in.”

Pelicans Guard Anthony Morrow
On defensive effort in third quarter
“Bottom line is we gave up too many points in the third (quarter). Defensively, when we did get stops, we didn’t capitalize on fast breaks and opportunities on offense.”
