Postgame report: From the Knicks locker room

Knicks Coach Mike Woodson
On tonight’s game
“We have been struggling so badly at the three-point line that shots look so appetizing. We settled. It came down to our defense. We had so many breakdowns again on the ball defense. We are not taking pride in guarding. We have to get better. That was the difference in the game tonight.”

On the defense
“We kept putting our bigs in a tough position because we aren’t getting to the ball. We will watch the tape tomorrow and it is going to be the same thing all over again and until we take pride in guarding the ball it is going to be nights like this. We needed some stops and couldn’t get them.”

On the team’s struggles
“I thought coming down the stretch we played on our heels like this 0-8 (8 game losing streak) was staring us in the face instead of relaxing and playing. I thought Tim Hardaway (Jr.) was a bright spot tonight. I thought he kept us in the game with his offense but defensively we have to get better.”

Knicks guard Raymond Felton
On tonight’s game
“We played a great second half, well a fairly well second half. Minor mistakes at the end. It’s just a tough loss. I don’t even have any other words. It’s tough… Minor things. I don’t think it was a lot of big things. It was a lot of minor things. A turnover here, a turnover there at the wrong moment. A bad switch here, and a bad switch there that gives up a three. Little things like that hurt. They’re things that you really don’t pay attention to but they hurt you during the course of the game.”

On what the team can take from the loss
“We felt good after the Denver (Nuggets) game. We felt good tonight. We lost, and it’s killing me right now. But we’re still playing better basketball than we were two weeks ago. So that’s the one thing that I can take from this. But other than that we have to find a way to get off of this losing streak. Someway, somehow, I don’t care how ugly it is. We just have to find a way.”

“I just think that they were the aggressors down the stretch, the last four or five minutes. It’s one of those things, we have to keep being aggressive, keep attacking. They were attacking us going to the basket and finding guys open for threes. It’s just something that we have to continue to do throughout the game. I don’t think it was any wrong way that we were playing at the end of the game, but I think that they were playing a little more aggressive than we were at the end of the game. That’s just something that can’t happen.”

Knicks guard J.R. Smith
On tonight’s game
“We were trying to put them away. We had some good looks. We made them in the third quarter but they didn’t fall in the fourth. We didn’t get stops especially me. I don’t know what I was doing on defense. We have to figure it out.”

On the defense
“Coach always says we have to take pride in guarding the ball. We have to take it from there. Once we start taking pride in stopping the ball the rest will work out.”

On his shooting
“It felt great leaving my hands but it was one of those days I guess. We have to take it day by day but it isn’t easy. We have to take pride in guarding the ball and we will go from there.”

Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony
On tonight’s game
“We, for the most part, for most of the game, felt pretty confident on both ends of the court. The second half, at the end of the game, we couldn’t put any stops together. Tim (Hardaway Jr.) came off the bench and gave us a big night. He knocked shots down when he was open. We couldn’t put stops together when we had to.”

On the nine game losing streak
“We can’t seem to figure it out defensively. Tonight there was a lot of switching and miscommunication on the basketball court. We have to get better at that.”

More on the nine game losing streak
“Seven straight period…at home or not…nine straight overall…we can’t seem to figure it out but we have to and keep going.”

More on tonight’s game
“I think New Orleans did a great job of finding that mismatch. When it counted we didn’t make plays on the defense end.”

On playing without Tyson Chandler
“Of course we miss him but he isn’t going to be back for awhile. The guys who are out there have to figure it out.”

Knicks guard Tim Hardaway, Jr.
On tonight’s game
“I was trying to give energy. I don’t think I played that well. I have a long way to go in the defensive end. I am really going to focus on that.”

On the nine game losing streak
“We have to do a better job as a team on defense. We are upset and we know what we have to do to get better as a team and we have the veterans that can make that work.”

On his season
“I feel like I can improve many different ways. Since I am rookie everyone tries to take me on. I need to do a better job of watching film, and acct the offensive player instead of letting them attack me.”
