News and updates from the New Orleans Arena prior to Wednesday’s Southwest Division game between Houston and New Orleans:

• Tyreke Evans joins Ryan Anderson and Jrue Holiday as out for New Orleans. On the Houston side, Omer Asik and Patrick Beverly are out. Chandler Parsons is probable.

• Pelicans Coach Monty Williams on what his team needs to do to win games while short-handed: “You have to really minimize the mistakes you make, and minimize those in crucial points of the game. We’ve talked about being a better team two weeks from now, because this is a new team, without three of your (key) guys. You have players in positions you didn’t plan on. You’re not going to have a perfect game, but if you can cut your mistakes from 20 to 15, that to me is growth.”

• Anthony Davis is averaging 25.0 points and 12.5 rebounds since New Orleans (15-22) became extremely undermanned as a result of injuries. Williams: “He’s more than capable of taking on more. I think the thing that hurt him last game was foul trouble (vs. San Antonio). As far as trying to get him more touches, I think it just happens as the game progresses. If there are times, especially out of timeouts, we try to get him the ball as much as we can.”

• Williams on his team’s effort recently: “I never want people patting us on the back for playing hard. That, to me, you should do anyway. Playing hard is part of what we do. I’d like that to be who we are and the calling card for the teams that I coach. But at the same time, that’s what you should do. The bottom line is you have to add execution to playing hard. It gives you a chance to win games.”
