Pregame report: Pelicans at Magic

News and updates from Orlando, prior to Friday’s 6 p.m. Central preseason matchup between the Pelicans and Magic:

• Monty Williams said in his pregame media availability that Tyreke Evans will play tonight. Williams would like to use Evans on the floor for at least some stretches in a combination with guards Jrue Holiday and Eric Gordon. Williams also said we’ll see some of the duo of Ryan Anderson with Anthony Davis.

• It’s a homecoming of sorts for Anderson, a former Magic player who won the NBA’s Most Improved Player award while with Orlando. It’s an actual homecoming for Austin Rivers, who grew up in Central Florida. He had four points and three assists in New Orleans’ Dec. 26 regular season win at Orlando last season.

• Williams on his rotation in the eighth and final preseason game: “We’re certainly not going to play our (rotation) guys their normal (allotment of) minutes. The minutes that they do get, we want to make sure they play to their full tilt.”

• In a scheduling oddity, the Pelicans will play at Orlando’s Amway Center again exactly one week from tonight, on Friday, Nov. 1. It will be New Orleans’ second regular season game and Orlando’s home opener.
