Pelicans.com 1-on-1: Alex Len
By: Brian Travis, Pelicans.com
University of Maryland center Alex Len met with Pelicans coaches and executives at the Alario Center on Friday morning. Coming off an ankle surgery, the 7-foot-1, 255-pound product of Ukraine was unable to work out, but he sat down with Pelicans.com in advance of the upcoming NBA Draft.
Pelicans.com: Is there a big man in the NBA, past or present, that you would compare yourself to?
Len: I actually don’t like to compare myself to anyone. But I really like watching what Tim Duncan is doing right now, and growing up I liked watching Hakeem Olajuwon.
Pelicans.com: What have you done to improve your game from freshman to sophomore year at Maryland and what are you looking to improve going forward?
Len: From my freshman to sophomore year I got a lot stronger. I put in a lot of work in the weight room all summer and I’d like to keep doing that going forward.
Pelicans.com: Is there anyone in the draft that you think is a draft sleeper? Someone who we’re not talking about a lot right now but who will turn out to be very good?
Len: I actually think Rudy Gobert is that guy. He’s coming from France and no one really knows a lot about him. He’s got a really good body his wingspan is about 7’9”, I think he’s going to be alright.
Pelicans.com: What are your first impressions of New Orleans as a city?
Len: I like it a lot actually. It kind of reminds me of a European city which I like since I’m from the Ukraine.
