San Antonio Spurs guard Marco Belinelli had a bit of an advantage on the competition during All-Star Saturday’s three-point contest. Among the eight participants in the shootout, Belinelli was easily the most familiar with launching perimeter shots in the Smoothie King Center, having played a total of 74 home games here for the then-Hornets in 2010-11 and 2011-12.
Representing the Western Conference, Belinelli outlasted Washington’s Bradley Beal, needing an extra round to defeat the Wizards guard after the players were deadlocked in the initial championship shooting round. Belinelli outscored West players Kevin Love (Minnesota), Damian Lillard (Portland) and Stephen Curry (Golden State) in the opening round.
"I have a really good memory about this city, about playing for New Orleans," Belinelli said. "I remember my first year when I was playing with the superstars like Chris Paul, David West, a great team, great coach like Monty Williams, and I went for the first time to the playoff. So I really remember (it) like yesterday. So it's just a good feeling to be back in this great town."
