New Orleans Pelicans reserve 7-footer Jason Smith will not play in Thursday’s preseason game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to Monty Williams. Smith was held out of Sunday’s win over Atlanta due to the same hip injury.
“He’s got what they call an impingement,” Williams said. “I feel like it’s smart to rest him right now.”
The Pelicans (4-0 in preseason) are starting a two-game road trip vs. OKC in Tulsa, followed by a Saturday game in Lexington against Washington. Meanwhile, guard/forward Tyreke Evans’ status is uncertain for Thursday. Evans (left ankle) said last week that he hopes to be able to play against the Thunder. He last played in a game on Oct. 5 in the preseason opener at Houston.
“He’s working out, trying to get his conditioning back,” Williams said. “He still has some soreness, but there’s nothing new to report.”
