Give-and-Go: Robin Lopez

By: Jim Eichenhofer,, @Jim_Eichenhofer

This is the latest edition of “Give-and-Go,” a periodic feature in which Hornets players respond to questions from fans. In this installment, New Orleans center Robin Lopez directly answers Twitter questions sent to We caught up with the new member of the Hornets at the Alario Center, where he was introduced to the Crescent City media for the first time on Thursday.

What was your initial reaction when you found out you were coming to a new team and were a new member of the Hornets?

Lopez: I was really excited to be here and was anxious to start the season. There are a lot of great guys on this team, and it’s a good, young, energetic core. I was excited to be a part of that.

When you think about your four-year NBA career, how would you describe what you’ve accomplished so far and what you hope to do in the future?

Lopez: I think so far, I’ve had a lot of fun, but what I want to do and accomplish (long-term), I’m still miles from that. So I need to keep working.

What are your impressions from afar of Anthony Davis, a player you may be spending significant time paired with on the floor in 2012-13?

Lopez: From what I’ve seen, he looks like a great player, with great instincts, and he’s freakishly athletic. I’m especially looking forward to playing with him on the defensive end. I think we both can definitely make a strong impact there.

Now it’s time for questions from Hornets fans. From @jared_mcdaniel: How is your health?

Lopez: The (knee) surgery I had this summer was more of a precautionary measure. Right now I’m feeling great. I was actually feeling very well before the procedure as well.

From @danielveuleman: What aspects of the game can you bring to the Hornets?

Lopez: I’m looking to bring a certain degree of toughness on the defensive end.

From @oceanback: What is your best skill that the Hornets should exploit, and are you really 10 pounds lighter than your twin brother?

Lopez: Well, as far as weight goes, we don’t really sit around and measure each other, so I can’t answer that question. [smiles] But as far as my best skill, I’m hoping to bring a little intensity, a little fire, a little bit of toughness to the court.

From @patrickclay10: I heard you’re a big Disney fan. What is your all-time favorite Disney animated movie?

Lopez: Among animated features, probably Robin Hood, for obvious reasons because of my (first) name, especially when I was a little kid. But in general, the films I like the most are from the late 1930s or 1940s, the time period pre- (World War II).

From @coopspetag: When’s the last time you got a haircut? A follow-up from @CP3nBrees: When are you going to cut your hair?

Lopez: Maybe not a full haircut, but I’ve gotten a few trims here and there (somewhat recently). If anyone is waiting for a full cut, they’re going to be waiting a while.

Speaking of hair, from @BBBlockParty: Is “Sideshow Rob” an acceptable nickname for you?

Lopez: Oh yeah, that’s fine! I love The Simpsons and am a huge Simpsons fan. I love Kelsey Grammer and am a big Sideshow Bob fan as well. So of course it’s OK.

What are some of the nicknames you’ve had in the past?

Lopez: [smiles] I’ve had a lot of different nicknames over the years. There is RoLo, RoBo, Boy Wonder and Big Simba.
