SALT LAKE CITY – New Orleans forward Anthony Davis will be in the lineup tonight against the Utah Jazz, according to Pelicans Coach Monty Williams. Davis exited Wednesday’s loss at Denver in the first half due to back spasms.
“He had a good shootaround today,” Williams said of the first-time All-Star. “He wants to play – that’s the biggest thing.”
Williams said a goal for Davis is to finish his second NBA campaign in strong fashion.
“I’ve heard a number of people say, ‘Why don’t you shut him down (for the season)?’ ” the coach related. “We’re trying to develop him so he can know what it’s like to play in April and May, and Lord willing, June. I think it starts in these early years, where he gets himself ready for this type of preparation. One day we want to be in a position where in this week, we’re looking at playing for a number of weeks after this. I think it’s important for his growth to know what it’s like to play at this time of year.”
Williams noted that the team might make a starting lineup change tonight against the Jazz, but did not specify what that would be.
