As the hosts of the 2014 NBA All-Star Game, the New Orleans Pelicans would love to have representation during the midseason classic on Sunday, Feb. 16. In order to guarantee that happens, fans of Anthony Davis will need to start stuffing the ballot box at an even greater rate.

The NBA released its first update of All-Star balloting results Thursday afternoon, announcing the top 10 vote-getters in each conference for the “Frontcourt” and “Backcourt” positional groupings. Davis was the only Pelicans player to appear in the top 10 of voting for either position, ranking sixth among Western Conference frontcourt candidates. Davis has received 149,579 votes, which places him behind Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant, Houston’s Dwight Howard, the Clippers’ Blake Griffin, Minnesota’s Kevin Love and San Antonio’s Tim Duncan in the West frontcourt race.

The top three frontcourt finishers will be named All-Star Game starters, along with two backcourt players. At the moment, the West starting five would consist of Durant, Howard, Griffin, the Lakers’ Kobe Bryant and the Clippers’ Chris Paul. Davis is roughly 143,000 votes in the frontcourt category behind the third-place Griffin. The starters for the 2014 All-Star Game will be announced live on TNT during the network’s Jan.23 pregame show prior to its weekly Thursday doubleheader.

Davis is currently out 4-6 weeks with a fracture of his left, non-shooting hand. He's averaging 18.8 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.6 blocks.
