The Pacers find themselves in an all-too-familiar position heading into Monday's game against Utah: looking to bounce back after a disappointing loss. Indiana (35-34) has now alternated between wins and losses for 13 consecutive games — a new franchise record — following Sunday's 116-91 loss in Toronto.

Despite their uneven performance over the last month, the Blue & Gold have held their position in sixth place in the East, though their playoff position is a little more precarious now. Indiana is just a game ahead of Milwaukee and a game and a half up on Detroit and Miami, one of whom would miss out on the postseason if the season ended today.

The good news is that recent history would suggest that the Pacers are due for a win on Monday, though they would love it to be the start of a sustained winning streak rather than another one-game reversal of fortune.

Beating the Jazz (43-27) won't be an easy task. Despite dropping their last two games, the Jazz are still comfortably in fourth place in the Western Conference. Utah is just a couple wins away from clinching a playoff berth and on track to pick up its first division title since the 2007-08 season.

The Jazz are led by Indianapolis native Gordon Hayward. The former Brownsburg and Butler star earned his first All-Star selection this season, with numbers that nearly mirror those of his Pacers counterpart, Paul George. Hayward is averaging a career-best 21.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.

But all eyes will be on another Indianapolis product on Monday night, as George Hill will return to Bankers Life Fieldhouse for the first time since being dealt to Utah over the summer in the three-team trade that brought Jeff Teague to the Pacers.

Hill, who spent five seasons in Indiana and was a key cog in the Pacers' back-to-back Eastern Conference Finals appearances, has been a welcome addition in Utah. The 6-3 combo guard and former Broad Ripple and IUPUI star is averaging a career-high 17.2 points per game and shooting 40.5 percent from 3-point range. Hill may not say it, but he will definitely want to make a statement with a strong game in his return to his hometown.

Last Meeting

January 21, 2017: George Hill scored a season-high 30 points to lead the Jazz to 109-100 win over his former team. Hill knocked down 5-of-9 3-pointers and also tallied six rebounds and five assists for Utah.

The Jazz led wire-to-wire, scoring 34 points in the first quarter on their way to victory. The Pacers mounted a charge but could never get over the hump, and both head coach Nate McMillan and All-Star forward Paul George were ejected in the fourth quarter for arguing with the officials.

George, Thaddeus Young, and Jeff Teague each scored 19 points for Indiana in the loss. Monta Ellis added 15 points off the bench on 6-of-10 shooting.

  • The Jazz hold a narrow 42-41 lead in the all-time series with the Pacers, though the Blue & Gold are 27-14 in games played in Indiana.
  • Utah has won the last three regular season contests against the Pacers and will be looking to sweep the regular season series for the second straight year.
  • The Pacers are only 4-11 on the season when playing on the second night of a back-to-back, though they are a more respectable 4-4 when playing the second half of a back-to-back at home.
