5-11, 195, PG, North Carolina
Prospect Profile | Video highlights
Q. What’s one consistent thing that you want to show people?
A. “One consistent thing is that I can shoot. My shooting has improved. And things that I wasn’t able to show at Carolina like my dribble penetration, getting to the basket and just how hard I worked.”
Q. How do you feel this workout went?
A. “I feel real well. They said I shot real well. I knocked down a lot of shots, did well in the one-on-one and two-on-two so I think I did real good and had a good showing here.”
Q. Size: Is that something that NBA teams bring up? Do they talk about it with you as far as how would you play, how would you play against bigger guards and those kinds of things?
A. “(They have talked to me about) how I would defend them against a mismatch or iso. I think I’m a strong guard so it’s not like they’re just going to back me down and score like that. I don’t feel like size is going to matter when it comes to bigger players.”
Q. Coach O’Brien has talked about defense being a big key, do you feel like that’s one of your strong suits?
A. “I think so (defense is one of my strong suits). Mostly on the ball pressure, that’s my real strong suit. I have to work on off the ball help against the right position but I do that kind of well. I think defense is one of my strong suits.”
Q. What’s next for you and where do you go from here?
A. “I go to Cleveland. I fly actually at around six.”
Q. Did you have a workout before this?
A. “No, this is my first one (workout).”
Q. How many total do you have set up?
A. “Six—Cleveland, then rest a couple of days, then I have Denver, Washington, rest two days and then I have Portland and Sacramento.”
Q. Where are you with your thought process now as far as deciding in or out?
A. “Probably after the 13th when I get all the information I can. I also want to see what my teammates are doing and listen to my dad because he hasn’t steered me wrong until now.”
Q. You’ve had some ankle injuries last season, how do you feel?
A. “I feel good. The ankle is 100% but the hip pointer I just got down in Orlando hurts a little bit. It’s kind of sore right now but everything is good.”
Q. How would you describe your game?
A. “Probably getting to the basket or now, pulling up for a jump shot and getting my teammates involved, penetrating and kicking and just defense.”
Q. How long did it take to get over the Final Four loss?
A. “It was kind of tough. We came all the way back though. If we would’ve lost by fifty, I would have been pissed. I’d still probably be mad but we came back and fought hard but it took a couple months.
Q. What area of your game are you trying to work on the most?
A. “My jump shot so that I can show everybody that I can shoot. I feel like people underrated me as a shooter. Other than that, (I’ve been working on) ball handling.”
Q. Is it enjoyable to go around to these different teams and see what they are about and get a feel for them?
A. “Yeah because I didn’t know too much about Indiana before I came here so going around and seeing the city (is enjoyable). I like the Indianapolis Colts but I’ve never been to the city but just coming out here, seeing the city, talking to the GM’s gives me a good feel for everybody.”
Q. What are they key things you were trying to do in today’s workout?
A. “(I was trying to) just shoot the ball real well and on the two-on-two’s and one-on-one’s just make plays and play as well as I could.”
Q. Carolina has a history of guys going to the NBA, do you talk to any of them on what to expect as you go through this process?
A. “I talk to Rashad McCants because he’s around most of the time now. I talk to him about how he went through the Orlando camp, the workouts and things like that. He’s given me a lot of inside pointers and things to do.”
