Special National Anthem Before Pacers/Dallas March 29

INDIANAPOLIS – When the Indiana Pacers play host to the Dallas Mavericks at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Sunday night, March 29, the team will be wearing for the fifth (of six) and final time at home this season, its popular Flo-Jo uniforms, designed in the late 80s by famed USA track & field star Florence Griffith-Joyner.

The Pacers have added an extra-special element to help celebrate the successful return of the popular uniforms by inviting Mary Joyner, Flo-Jo’s daughter, to attend the game and sing the National Anthem. Mary, an accomplished signer, appeared on America’s Got Talent in 2012. “The national anthem meant so much to my mother,” said Mary of her mom, who passed away at age 38 in 1998 when Mary was just seven years old. “And, not only are the Pacers honoring her, but they’re honoring her work outside the track world. She loved designing and it means a lot that they’re honoring my mother’s jersey. And for me to be singing the national anthem at a Pacers game while the team wears those uniforms, it’s such an honor. I always envisioned myself singing one day before a professional basketball game, so this is like a dream come true.“

Griffith-Joyner designed the Pacers uniforms in 1989 and the team wore them from the 1990-91 season through the 1996-97 campaign. The fact the Pacers brought back the uniforms this year for six games delighted Mary Joyner. ”It’s great because my mom’s work lives on. I know she put her passion and her heart into the design. Out of all the uniforms, I love her designs because they actually fit this generation as well. I believe her designs are timeless. I just know she would be so happy and so proud of her work being re-recognized.”

Fans can purchase the Flo-Jo edition Pacers jerseys in the Pacers Home Court Gift Shop at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Tickets remain for the Pacers vs. Mavericks game on March 29 and can be purchased at Pacers.com.
