Pacers acquire Barbosa from Raptors

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Pacers announced Thursday they have acquired 6-3, 194-pound guard Leandro Barbosa from the Toronto Raptors in exchange for a second-round draft pick.

“It’s great to have Leandro join our team,” said President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird. “He gives us added depth and scoring off the bench and will help us as we make our run to the playoffs.”

Barbosa is in his ninth NBA season. He had played in 42 games for the Raptors, averaging 12.2 points per game. In his career, he has averaged 12.6 ppg and has shot 46 percent. He averaged a career-high 18.1 ppg with Phoenix in 2006-07.

Born In Sao Paulo, Brazil, the 29-year-old Barbosa was a first-round pick of the San Antonio Spurs (28th overall) in the 2003 NBA Draft and traded to the Suns on draft night. Toronto acquired him in a trade July 14, 2010, from Phoenix.

Barbosa will not be with the Pacers when they visit the New York Knicks Friday night, but could be in uniform when they host the Knicks Saturday night.
