Pacers Tip Off 13th Annual Read Like a Pro Program

Cargo Services Helps Sponsor Pacers Reading TimeOuts

INDIANAPOLIS – For the 13th consecutive season the Indiana Pacers have produced a five-month program to promote reading among Central Indiana youth. This year the Pacers have partnered with Cargo Services, Inc., for the “Read Like a Pro” Reading Timeout Program, which is part of the team’s education initiative program. This important endeavor will tip off Wednesday, Jan. 15 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse where 200 children from the Department of Child Services will be treated to an evening of special guest readers, prizes and more.

The Pacers, through their Pacers Cares community service program, have long been involved in the promotion of the development and well-being of youth and families within Central Indiana with special emphasis on Education, Social Responsibility and Health. Paul George Reading Poster This year’s program alone will target more than 30 elementary schools and reach over 5,000 K-3rd grade students in Marion County and the eight surrounding counties. The program will reach Indiana youth from Greenfield to Avon, Elwood to Camby, Bicknell to McCordsville and Brownsburg to Indianapolis, among other areas.

For Wednesday’s tip off event, Pacers mascot Boomer will be joined by members of the Pacers All-Star Reading Team to share their favorite children’s stories throughout the evening. Each child will receive a Cool Cats Read T-shirt, a Scholastic book and a Pacers Fun Bag, which includes a reading poster and a bookmark.
