Pacers Begin "NBA Fit" Live Healthy Week

Official Release

January 3, 2014

INDIANAPOLIS – In conjunction with the NBA’s Fit Live Healthy Week January 3-10, the Indiana Pacers are embarking on a series of activities designed to promote active, healthy lifestyles.

The “Get Pacers Fit Program sponsored by Kroger” will be today and tomorrow at the Fishers YMCA, where Pacers legend Darnell “Dr. Dunk” Hillman will lead a two-day instructional clinic in conjunction with the National Basketball Academy. Hillman will instruct participants in basketball fundamentals, as well as what it takes to be a pro both on and off the court. Camps run from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. both days.

Also on Saturday, the first 5,000 fans in attendance for the Pacers game vs. New Orleans game at Bankers Life Fieldhouse will receive a Get Pacers Fit Jump Rope courtesy of the Pacers and Kroger.

Prior to the Pacers’ game against Toronto on Tuesday, Jan. 7, Hillman will lead a group of campers from the Boys & Girls Club of Franklin, Chase Near Eastside Legacy Center, Henry County YMCA and the Glick Neighborhood Center through a clinic to encourage all fans to not only embrace the love of basketball and fitness, but to help promote the Pacers TNBA Clinics and Summer Hoops Tour held throughout the year.

On Jan. 8, Pacers Mascot Boomer will take Boomer’s Boot Camp on the road to area Senior Centers, instructing participants on continuing to make proper food choices and teach proper modified exercise techniques – of course, this will all be done to some wacky cat beats (also known as fun dance music). Visits will be made to Zionsville Meadows, Hearth of Tudor and Morningside of College Park.

Closing out the week, on Friday, Jan. 10, the Pacers will host the 2013 Summer Hoops Tour volunteer coaches for the Pacers’ game with the Washington Wizards. These coaches are a vital component to the success of the annual Summer Hoops Tour and are being recognized for donating their time in helping us teach the fundamentals of basketball and general life skills.
