Hibbert Named Reserve on NBA All-Star Team

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Pacers center Roy Hibbert was named Thursday night as a reserve for the Eastern Conference All-Star Team. Hibbert was voted by the Eastern Conference Coaches for the NBA All-Star Game, Feb. 16, in New Orleans.

Hibbert joins Paul George, who last week was named a starter for the Eastern Conference All-Star team. This is the sixth time in team history that the Pacers have two players on the All-Star team. Pacers Head Coach Frank Vogel and his staff will be the coaches of the Eastern Conference All-Star team.

This is the second time Hibbert has been named to the Eastern Conference All-Stars, as he was voted on by the coaches for the 2012 game in Orlando. Hibbert, in his sixth year in the NBA, is averaging 7.8 rebounds per game and is second in the league with 2.55 blocks per game.

“It’s a great honor to be an All-Star once and to be named again makes it even more special,” said Hibbert. “This is more about the team and what we’ve accomplished so far than it is about Paul or I being All-Stars.”

“To be able to have two of our players going to the All-Star game with the coaching staff is great recognition for what we’ve accomplished so far,” said Frank Vogel. “I can make a case for a lot of our guys to be All-Stars and I know that’s not possible, but I’m happy for Paul and Roy. I appreciate the coaches recognizing Roy for his contributions to our team and our record. Winning provides many benefits and this is one.”

Hibbert is one of 12 players in Pacers history to be named to the All-Star team (Don Buse, Billy Knight, Reggie Miller, Detlef Schrempf, Rik Smits, Dale Davis, Jermaine O’Neal, Brad Miller, Ron Artest, Danny Granger and Paul George are the others).
