The Pacers announced Tuesday that forward Danny Granger will be out “indefinitely” with soreness in his left knee. He is to receive a second opinion, with an update to follow.
Granger injured a tendon in his left knee toward the end of the second-round playoff series with Miami last season, and tweaked it during off-season workouts. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection in Los Angeles on Sept. 16, a procedure in which blood is drawn from the patient, spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-poor plasma, and injected into the damaged tendon.
Granger expressed confidence throughout training camp that he would have a healthy knee during the upcoming season. He participated in the final two preseason games. He played 12 minutes at Cleveland, scoring nine points, and 22 minutes against Chicago in South Bend last Friday, scoring 10 points.
Granger, the Pacers' first-round draft pick in 2005, is entering his eighth season with the franchise. He has been the team's leading scorer for the past five seasons. He was an All-Star in the 2008-09 season, when he averaged a career-high 25.8 points.
