Indiana Pacers guard Paul George was named Wednesday to the NBA’s All-Rookie Second Team in a vote by the league’s head coaches.
“This is nice recognition for a young man who we think will play a big part in the future of our basketball team,” said Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird. “When we drafted him (10th overall pick) we knew he was a talented player who could contribute at both ends of the floor and I think he proved that this season.”
George played in 61 games, starting the last 19 games of the season and all five games of the playoffs. He averaged 7.8 points and 3.7 rebounds during the regular season and 6 points and 5 rebounds in the playoffs.
“It’s an honor to be a part of the All-Rookie team,” said George. “I’m very grateful to receive recognition on a special rookie season.”
Joining George on the second team were: Detroit’s Greg Monroe; Minnesota’s Wesley Johnson; the Los Angeles Clippers’ Eric Bledsoe and Utah’s Derrick Favors.
First team selections were Rookie of the Year Blake Griffin from the Clippers; John Wall of the Washington Wizards; New York’s Landry Fields; Sacramento’s DeMarcus Cousins and San Antonio’s Gary Neal.
